Reality TV Politics
What's going on? I tuned into the DNC debates tonight and it opened with a Word Wrestling-style announcer describing the candidates in a ridiculous voice while flashing, disorienting shit was displayed all over the screen. The audience was shouting, interrupting, the candidates were at each others throats. I think we're seeing a new age of politics as entertainment (infotainment?)
The Trump age turns politics into a circus and the mainstream democrats say hey, let's respond to this by making our own circus that's even zanier.
One of the more marginal candidates made a really interesting meta-observation at the end
"We're up here with makeup on our faces and our rehearsed attack lines, playing roles in this reality TV show. It's one of the reasons why we elected a reality TV star as President." -Andrew Yang (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5epb7FGAKjc)

I hesitate to corrupt this place with political bile, but this shit really feels relevant to some of the topics people discuss here... hyperstition etc.
Meh, I think politics has been a joke for a while now. It’s all the same to me on both sides. Corrupt politicians jousting for more power. They are just playing the game in order to win. They are pandering to our reactionary culture. It would seem that modern culture responds better to flashy lights, witty retorts, drama fueled rivalries and insults than to real answers to real problems.
Based on my experiments, saying that both sides are the same is the easiest way to get yourself banned.
The thought police can ban me if they wish. It only serves to highlight their own fragility.
And stops you from sharing your opinions.
