Let Me Love You
Let me love you!
She shouted
He turned to her on cue
Frustrated, she pouted
Let me love you!
He gazed at her coldly
His eyes shining a bright blue
She stared back boldly
Let me love you!
He walked away
Was this what it had come to?
She wished he would stay
Let me love you!
He stretched, uncaring
Of what she put up with, he had no clue
Her grievances were airing
Let me love you!
Annoyance made her decide
No more acting like a shrew
This she’d no longer abide
Let me love you!
Instead of regrets
She’d instigate a coup
And go in for pets
Let me love you!
She’d wail
He turned to her on cue
And swished his tail

**I submitted my first poem last night and I loved it. I've caught the poetry bug. Here is my second poem and my first attempt at rhyming. Hit me with your constructive criticism!

I can't tell if you're talking about a cat, an apathetic lover, or the transition from an apathetic lover to a cat. Regardless, the simplicity, flow, and thoughtfully put together rhyme scheme is nice. Why did you write this?
My intention was to write a humorous poem. It's about my cat and my husband and I will jokingly yell "let me love you!" when our cat doesn't want to be petted or picked up. I wanted to try to have people think it was about an apathetic lover at first than be mildly surprised and amused when it turned out to be a cat all along. I guess it didn't quite come across that way!
Thanks for taking the time to respond and also write this. I think that's the most thing as an author of a poem. . . knowing why you wrote what you did and finding out what meaning other people extract from your writing.
