Welcome To The Angel Project

UPDATE - I have decided that The Angel Project should be open to everyone's campaigns, not just a specific game. Too many people are trying to organize campaigns and everyone is scattered and bouncing from one campaign to another. And our promotional efforts are clogging up The OA sub from those still wanting to discuss the series.

As of today, The Angel Project is HQ to any and all campaign organizers who need a spot to collaborate with their own groups and with other groups doing other things. Two camps - one is focusing on raising awareness about the cancellation of The OA and the outcry to help get The OA renewed (#SaveTheOA) while the second - and the original goal for this sub - is focusing on promotion and marketing of The OA series, The OA Experience, through advertising, media campaigns, games, art, and anything else.

Please don't be afraid to just jump in and use it as your HQ. The more people doing things that share with each other under one roof, the more all of our efforts will begin to look like one big world wide coordinated effort and that will get attention. As long as we're scattered across the web our efforts are being diluted. Grab your friends and send them to The Angel Project - with the goal of saving and promoting The OA.

If you need a live chat, we have added the SaveTheOA Discord in the side bar.

If you need to share your campaign links for others to find and get involved, create a list and im them to me and I will set up a sidebar panel for all of them for you guys.

If you need to hash out suggestions and ideas, use the forum.

If you need to corral your group, organize by the flair roles...and if you need a specific role for what you're working on or promoting, let me know and I will add it for you.

If you need help with any project, post a request for it.

United effort will being the best results.

While I'm still working on specific campaigns, they are now removed as the core objective of The Angel Project...it is now a fan fueled marketing and promotional wing for saving and experiencing The OA - and a spot for all campaign groups to use so we can leave The OA as a discussion forum for the series and those watching it.

As we all know by now, Netflix has opted to not renew The OA and as of now there are not going to be any further seasons. After speaking with a Netflix Rep (as have others) what we've come to understand is that the non renewal of The OA can be considered a "soft cancellation" in that it gives a bit of wiggle room for an active, passionate fan base to be heard and demonstrate to Netflix that the series is worth saving and more people will see it.

However, this is true only for the amount of time The OA remains listed on Netflix. Once it's removed, the window closes and chances of renewal are gone.

Netflix did not provide much of - or any - real promotion for The OA and left it to its own devices to rely on you and me and all of us to spread the word and bring in more viewers. This is going to be the crucial obstacle - more viewers.

We have a somewhat limited window of opportunity to accomplish these goals: 1. make sure the numbers let Netflix know we want The OA renewed for seasons 3, 4, and 5 as intended, and 2. to bring as many NEW viewers to the series and getting them to watch all of seasons 1 and 2 all the way through. This is important. Netflix bases their decisions - in part - on how many people watch all of the season(s) all the way through.

To that end, many people are focusing on the passionate fan backlash and outcry, social media, getting the fanbase riled up to submit the TV/Movie request form to Netflix, and even in encouraging them to cancel their subscriptions specifically with the reason that The OA was not renewed.

The Angel Project

The Angel Project is taking up the halo for the other part of the problem and that is a campaign to bring more viewers to the table. The goal of The Angel Project is to put together one or more campaigns in the form of an alternate reality experience designed for those who have heard of The OA but haven't watched it yet and aren't really sure what the fuss is about. This series is not one that "everyone's heard of already" - it is not. The marketing and promotion came nearly exclusively from word of mouth or cast interviews but the big marketing department funds and appearances kept The OA an almost obscure, cult status.

Before you think a cult following isn't enough to get the job done, I have one four words for you that beg to differ.

I see The OA being fully capable of this. I'm not the only one.

In order to change that and get it trending mainstream, we need more viewers. Plain and simple.

This is a voluntary effort by everyone involved. No one is getting paid (though if you come up with a great idea that makes you or all of us some money, by all means go for it!). No one has been commissioned by Netflix, by Plan B, by Brit or Zal or anyone involved in the production of the series.

It's commissioned by me, Kara Kelly...a mom, a grandma, and a tremendous fan of The OA...in the hopes that one of the problems that prevented the renewal can be turned around with some clever crowdsourced marketing and promotion...in the form of an experience.

The OA is not just a series.

The OA is, and has always been, an experience.

We've all searched high and low for an IRL channel, perhaps with Q Symphony or a social media account for a character, and even the last lingering hope for the faux fake out cancellation of The OA having moved IRL...for real.

As a fan fueled project to use our numbers to promote this series in a fun, engaging way, we just might manage to get the attention of TPB with Netflix that with the right promotion people will watch it, they will enjoy it, they will fall in love with it and they will tell even more people about it, who will do the same.

The Angel Project seeks to create that experience we all wanted, or enough of one to create a viral buzz across the planet, driving up the viewership to both seasons of The OA before it's permanently removed.

That's the gist of it.

Most of what The Angel Project requires is some grass roots effort. Just time and energy and love and passion. No money...the avenues are the same ones we've been using all along - all free - but now with a sharper focus aimed at those who have not met our Original Angel.

Season 3 is on all of us...please get involved.

If The Angel Project is not for you at this time, so be it.

You can still help by

  1. Rewatching Seasons 1 and 2 all the way through
  2. Visiting this link and entering Renew The OA, Save The OA, or Season 3 of The OA/Season 4 of The OA/Season 5 of The OA in the fields as these requests go directly to the content team who decides what stays and what goes.
  3. Tweeting to Netflix to SaveTheOA or RenewTheOA and getting involved in the petitions and social media campaigns focusing on this goal.
