Surface Pro 6 SSD speed?

[PRO6]

Just got the cheaper Surface Pro 6, and while I like the form factor a lot, I'd like to get a quicker machine.

I was just wondering if there's any difference with the ssd speeds going from the 128gb all the way up to the 512gb.

If you guys have a 256gb/512gb, please run and post an ssd speed test

You can find a routine program to run a test here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.techspot.com/amp/downloads/6014-as-ssd-benchmark.html

Thank you!

Usually, as the SSD size goes up, the speed also goes up. You could look up the speeds, a lot of reviewers have done these tests.

I don't have an SP6, but I ran the test anyways on my SP2017 i7/16gb/512gb.

Ok, so from notebookcheck.com

Storage Devices

CrystalDiskMark 3.0 confirms our suspicions; the Toshiba SSD in our test device is significantly slower than the Samsung PM971 in the Surface Pro (2017). The PM971 has 40% faster transfer speeds overall than its Toshiba counterpart. Curiously, Microsoft also equipped the Surface Book 2 with an older Samsung PM961 SSD.

Toshiba claims that the drive should reach up to 1,500 MB/s sequential read speeds. However, our tests demonstrate that it does not even reach half those claims.

Read seq. 650. Write seq. 750

Which is indeed a lot lower than your Surface Pro 2017.

I can't believe this is true and need other people for confirmation, pretty please!

P.S. According to windowscentral.com:

Graphics are improved as well over last year's model, and the SSD is much faster.

But not test shown.

I have a Core i7 Surface Pro 6 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD and my device has a Samsung SSD, not a Toshiba. I'm not sure it they're using a different SSD brand for 128 and 256 GB devices. I haven't yet tested my SSD speed, but I will check and post my results.

There also seem to be quite a difference in speeds in 128GB SP6 models depending on what SSD you have. I have the Hynix, and it seems to be a bit quicker:

Bonus , I also have an old Intel 335 series 180GB SSD, which I'm connecting with SATA to USB 3 adapter, and it is perfectly fine for adding some storage to my internal SSD. I have my steam library running from this external ssd, no issues there. I wasn't going to pay extra 300€ for additional 128GB of storage.
