How many units does one realistically need to play this game? Are freighter missions useless outside selling what you get for units?

Discussion

So I’ve been playing this game for about 2 weeks now and I have 1.8 billion units and 4K nanites.

I finally decided to finish the expanding the base mission and haven’t touched any main missions since starting the game. Is there any point in doing freighter missions anymore? I can buy mostly any resources I need from stations now.

Do I have enough units now to just focus on missions and not bother with the freighter anymore?

I don't really understand your question. To play this game, you need 0 units. That's what you start the game with, and at that point you're already playing the game.

I saying in terms of buying stuff. Is there a point to doing freight missions outside of acquiring units. Seems like you can buy everything you need at a space station

IMO, no. You've got more than enough units to buy S class versions of any ship you want, as well as a new S class freighter and all the mats you'll ever need.

Perfect, thank you. I’ve been lagging on missions Incase the beyond update adds something new to some of the earlier missions. I’ll just hang tight and gather rarer resources from certain planets

I almost never buy stuff or need credits, so

Okay cool, then I’ll just ignore the freighter go forward

I think the most expensive item to buy in the game is a max slot S class capital freighter, and its around 180 million. Once you hit a billion you're pretty much set. Also, it'll never go higher than 4,294,967,295. Freighter missions do rank up your frigates. They'll keep ranking up with each expedition until they hit S class, so there's that, but like I said, once you're in the billions, you're pretty much set for life as far as money goes. Might want to beef up your nanites so you'll have plenty to buy any new tech that beyond might introduce, but you're really pretty good there too. But Freighter missions don't score you any nanites. Best way to get nanites is stacking missions and farming whispering eggs.

Yeah, I was dumb when I started and sold them all for units. Once I sold a ton of them I actually looked them up and saw they were worth 50 nanites a pop.

Oh well, live and learn. Now I turn them into nanites but would love to have thousands more nanites

I was the same way, had no idea you could refine them for the longest. 4K should be more than enough to buy any new tech that might be coming with beyond though.

Heavens, I've been playing since Day 1 and have never come close to a billion units. I think I'm up to 50 million on my oldest save.

I maxed out my exosuit and extra cargo space then bought tech modules and went galaxy to galaxy crashing their markets. Was making about 20M per warp

Freighter missions are good to have going on the background for certain rarer resources. Right now, I'd stockpile system specific minerals and crops. Don't know what changes they'll make to the periodic table for the Beyond update. Also, upgrade modules, high level ships, and unlocking blueprints for crafting.

Yeah, with beyond coming out I didn’t wanna jump into mission right away in case they added anything cool to the earlier missions. I’ve been grabbing planet specific resources now for the most part. I’m also hitting black holes when I see them so I can broaden my warping areas

I have a great ship and freighter so anything better is just icing on the cake

If you can get your hands on a stasis device too and using cough certain methods cough, and fill a max slot hauler, that wouldn't be bad. May as well max out your bank account.

Noted, I’ll start doing some research into this. Thanks!

If you also get an S class upgrade module for every weapon and system for your ship, multitool, and suit, using said method, you'll never need to search for modules again.

once you get the ships you want and the freighter you want you could have eleventy gazillion units and it wont matter. you dont need many units once kitted out. yet another problem with the mechanics of this game. the economy is nonexistent and the storyline peters out too quickly. but hey lets have dorkville vr and more fighting and 'customization'. because thats what exploring is about right?

Yeah I have an A class Freighter with 34 slots and an A class Hauler with 48 slots and a maxed out exosuit and cargo. I feel like now I’ll just causally do missions until I get bored
