Well, Guys...It's Been Fun
I probably should've just held off to see if there was any interest before going all in - my fault, not yours - but what I am seeing is scattered campaigns. I tried in the last couple days to whip up some resources for people to use who had an actual interest in doing something of substance but what I am seeing is that the most active group seems pretty much only interested in getting things to trend on twitter and not much else. And the actual willingness of support in the USA is minimal. Seems the only things anyone shows an interest in doing is movement meets - which is spectacular and I'm all for it, or as I said already, getting stuff to "trend" on twitter - which literally does nothing because it goes nowhere, it has no call to action, it doesn't do anything (but apparently irritate people on twitter and facebook, according to some reports of nasty hostility toward them). The Times Square ad is the boss, without a doubt..but then what is the call to action?
I fully appreciate "save the oa" - but without some direction on why and how, people will ignore it. OA fans will appreciate it and share it but that's about all it will amount to.
I don't know what else to do. I don't see these efforts addressing the real problem: low viewership for this series.
As I said, I probably rushed in before finding out if anybody gave a shit first and put up The Angel Project, initially for the ARG and couldn't really "rally the troops" to get that anywhere. I changed it up to then offer it up for your various campaigns to keep from promoting them on TOA sub so people can get back to discussing The OA episodes and to be more respectful of the original agenda for this sub but everyone still posts promo stuff here (to the choir) and nobody is really interested in The Angel Project sub so I will probably shut it down.
I was excited about We Are Steve and tried to get a little traction on twitter, which has been fun, I won't lie but my acct there is too new for me to really make a difference...we're just tweeting the same shit to one another.
Unless there is an actual serious united front in one location - with a specific agenda, plan and course of action - we're not going to see a season 3. The petition reached 50k and perhaps it was the hour but the ones in the SaveTheOA discord didn't seem to really care about it because promoting "the oa is real" was the primary focus. Not knocking it, just don't really get the point of "the oa is real" at the expense of everything else that can be done that can make a difference.
The oa is not real. So what do people do with that when they see it? What are they supposed to do? They're left hanging so at the end of the day the goal seemed literally just to see if they could get it to trend. They did, worldwide, and they're really happy. That's fantastic.
So now what?
Bottom line, if those viewer numbers don't increase there won't be a season 3. And frankly there may not be one no matter how many viewers show up in the next few months.
And spamming the shit out of celebrities is going to piss them off eventually, and then what? You lose the real opportunity because you'll be tuned out.
I desperately want to work with serious minded people who can be focused, stay on point and focus on the actions that achieve a goal of bringing in more people. But I also want to work with people who will contribute something, offer ideas, flesh out the plans - I don't want to be the one doing it all (or all alone, that's no fun ;p) but it seems at least right now, as long as twitter trends are the end goal, there's not much left to really do.
So for you guys working on campaigns with a point, I wish you all the best. To you guys who are just spamming twitter without an end game, please at least find a point for it so that the end result leads to more viewers. We had a momentum going and then suddenly it just evaporated as trending became the hot in thing. It sent a clear message that either some groups pushing that don't understand the actual problem that needs to be solved or they don't really care enough to take it seriously - or something else...it's just not going to be enough. And that makes me fucking sad and frustrated.
I'm not asking to, nor was I ever trying to be anybody's leader. I just jumped on some options I thought would help and while I'm appreciative of the 100 something new subs in a couple days, only about 6 people have offered to help and then I've not heard another word from them since. ;-/ I only want to see these campaigns succeed.
That's it...that's the message: make it count, make it have a point that converts to viewers on netflix...or wave goodbye to the Angel for good.
Night yall! Good luck with your campaigns! I'll be rootin for ya all the same.
