I've noticed Americans abroad are really loud in public in comparison to everyone else and don't even realize

Definitely can’t hear everyone else over how loud their freedom sounds

I’m an American. I like to play this game, “our team or their team” when not in America or in a place with a fairly international crowd. Basically we just guess if someone is an American from their appearance and behavior. The Americans are usually pretty easy to pick out. Except I’ve found that when someone is so incredibly “our team,” and obviously American, they’re always English.

Or Canadian or Aussie or Kiwis. Just generally the more internationally respected cousins lol

I was in a tour group in a dimly lit museum. With me in that group was a very large man wearing a t-shirt with Superman on it. Following him was his large wife, who was recording the whole thing on her phone, with the flashlight on, lighting her husband and whatever they looked at up in this fairly dark museum. I was horrified. Surely they were our team. The captains of our team, in fact. And then he spoke, and I was shocked and relieved to hear an English accent.

I would be too. Kinda sad the relief you get from internally distancing yourself from annoying people when you're trying to be a good ambassador for your culture/country

It’s often really loud in places here in the states. We speak louder because we are usually talking over people.

I'm not American but I lived there for 5 years and still visit frequently but it still makes me cringe on public transport or in restaurants

I once saw a car with at least three confederate flag bumper stickers, and another that said, "Fighting terrorism since 1861."

Unamerican.

And yet only America could produce a human being who would buy a sticker that said that.

My tour guide in Philadelphia actually screamed. She screamed. There is no other way of describing it. She maintained a steady flow of screaming for three hours. At the end of the tour, she delivered another 20 minute speech on freedom and democracy and as this point I just really wanted some KFC.

When I flew back to the states after a year stationed in Korea, I had a 14 hour flight. We landed in Atlanta and I had 15 minutes to catch my flight home to STL. I passed all the fast food places I had been craving since I had left because I didn't have any time to stop even though I was hungry after the long flight. I boarded the plane and the pilot says we are waiting for some passengers. Ten minutes later, they finally board and it's an obese family that DID have time to stop for that delicious baconator. That's when the reality of me being back stateside sunk in.
