It's not up to you whether or not she goes on birth control, I'm sorry.  You can use condoms, and you should, but the pill is not necessary, and it can change her body and mind in a lot of ways.  It may even lower sex drive to the point where it's absolutely NOT enjoyable.  

Use condoms every time, and you should be fine.  Should a scare occur, there's the Plan B pill, and if she takes it within 72 hours you're ok.
