I think this is a good idea for a political poster, I just don't have the talent to pull it off.

I don't have the artistic ability to make this happen, but I was hoping maybe someone else would be interested.

Here is the concept

In a nutshell... this poster would fill a niche, as all current pro-Prop 19 posters seem to revolve around trying to convince people to change their mind about marijuana, while this one would approach the situation by forcing people to acknowledge who shares their opinion.

The top of the poster should say:

JOIN US in voting NO on Prop 19!

And below the headline, it should be various mexican drug cartel people, thugs with piles of cash, maybe even throw in some of the rich pharmaceutical companies. But have them all smiling and happy (some thumbs up and such). In my head, its done in cartoon-form like in the DARE ads where it shows a drawing of a Cop and a community all being happy and thumbing-up drug-free lifestyles.

There would be many appreciative people for whoever could pull this off.

Edit: Clarified the idea.

Be very careful. In the UK we had a campaign to oppose the BNP (neo-nazi party) and their posters were so badly designed that they gave the wrong message. People are lazy. If they can't digest the message in 2 seconds then they assume things.

Don't put "join us on voting no" as a title, make it a statement that the cartels would make.

DRUG CARTELS OF THE WORLD

Invite you to join them in voting NO on prop 19.

OR use

DRUG CARTELS WANT YOU to vote NO on prop 19

With a drug lord in an uncle sam pose complete with shit eating grin and wad of cash.

Also, use the same copy with various gruesome illustrations. For example a 'chalked' body, but with the head a few feet away, also chalked.

This. Exactly what I was going to suggest. Upvoted :)

That seems like a very bright approach amigo.

Hi, Just had a go @ this..

Message and graphics need to be simple.

Farlist•

i agree with you, but don't forget guys...

this can be seen both ways (as in drug cartels being able to sell the same stuff but now leagal, and then suppourt there other illeagal dealings)

so this poster is a absolutley bad idea if your pro prop 19

Redditite•

Correct me if I'm wrong, but why would the state allow cartels to sell weed if it is legal? It would be regulated and taxed, would it not?

5
Farlist•

well, i took my time and thought that, if its leagal and everyone is selling it...

the price per [amount here] will lower, making it pointless to do it...

unless they want to go legit/launder money

oh and i think that allowing has nothing to do with it...

Have a picture of a cop that says, "I could work on your case (or safety) if I didn't have to worry about drug dealers."

If I have time I will do a version with a thug instead of a drug lord. It's not my best work, but it's for a good cause. Anyone reading this is free to use this and edit it as long as it is used for the purpose it was made.

geoman2k•

i didn't really think drug lord when i saw this guy. what exactly about him is suppose to make the viewer identify him as a drug dealer (aside from being latino)?

Redditite•

He has cash and a gun. It's not exactly the most enthralling characterisation, it is just a play on the uncle sam poster.

It would work a lot better with a gang thug.

Something simple like this:

If they could vote, these guys would vote NO on prop. 19

http://wizbangblue.com/images/2009/02/mexican%20drug%20cartel.jpg

Voting Yes on prop. 19 takes money and power away from drug cartels. It also brings tax dollars which can be used to help fund education and health care for Americans.

EDIT: Here's a basic attempt:

Here's another idea, hopefully someone who knows Photoshop can roll with it:

Vote NO on prop. 19 if you want this money to go to Mexican cartels:

Americans only respond to fear, so here's another take:

Worried about your kids?

http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/photos/2009/03/07/l111631-101.jpg

Vote YES on prop. 19 to establish a system of regulations taking power and money away from violent drug cartels. It will also free up time and resources for law enforcement so they can go after murderers, rapists and child molesters.

I've made a quick one. Here's the small version: http://imgur.com/fsTZn.jpg

I've got a full-size A4 300dpi one if anyone wants me to upload it, I will. As it is now, it's not the best poster, but it kind of got the point across.

fingers•

I think if they had guns it would be more effective.

2
Barnolde•

Agreed. You need to hammer home the fear aspect quickly.

The only pictures I could find with drug cartels and guns are pictures of them being arrested, which might not be as effective. Your call though.

1
nullbitOP•

I was hoping for more of a cartoony, drawn version. Where each character is happy and smiling, but also obviously dangerous-looking (with guns and such). Sort of a "what's going on here?" type of thing.

Appreciate you stepping up though =)

2
Redditite•

If you want me to make the one I suggested above I would happily give it a go. It wont be amazing quality, but it will get a message across.

1
nullbitOP•

I do =). Give it a go.

1
Barnolde•

This just looks like a bunch of random Mexicans. The picture should be instantly-recognizable and hard-hitting in order to quickly stick with the viewer.

The text is really good, came to do something similar.

2
crunk•

Hi, Using @reddite's point about keeping the text simple, and one of the existing images: http://i.imgur.com/7uRtF.png

The message needs to be simple, with this you can just change the top text - also graphics are simple - like the Aids ads in the 80s the black == fear.

EDIT:

Heres a variant showing some space for blerb at the bottom and a diff picture (+fixed the red outline a little):

http://i.imgur.com/YwL4J.jpg

Just quickly done in inkscape, I'd upload the SVGs but imgur doesn't support them.

Or, "We'd like you to vote NO on Prop 19"

Then the picture of the drug cartel members.

At the bottom: Keep the cartels in business.

The drugs you do are made by people who think in dollar signs. And that's not very punk of you, maybe you should change your mind.

Reconsider the whole deal.

I have no idea what you're attempting to say.
