Ah yes the black man who gave a well-deserved platform to Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Killer Mike, GZA, Erykah Badu, Wyclef, Lauryn Hill, The Roots and a thousand others is white now. In terms of economic privilege, I guess all the above are white too. This guy should call Lauryn Hill and tell her she's white and record the conversation for posterity.

JFC I need to take an extended break from the world.

what's unbelievable to me is these people's devotion to casting every single conflict, especially class conflict, as some sort of racial struggle. I don't think they grasp how deeply this is going to backfire

231
[deleted]•

As soon as a black man becomes successful he’s now white.

How did they go from ‘helping’ the poor and mistreated live a comfortable life and being accepted by society, a basic decency sought everywhere, to a world where only the most oppressed unsuccessful token minority victims opinions matter in every situation (usually proxied through some middle class university activists)? Was that really the goal of socialism? A meritocracy of oppression?

It really only makes sense if you view it via their own saviour complex, the ones who think they know best for the world, taken to its logical extreme - not the part about actually progressing society forward - but lumping all the ones who allegedly need their help the most in one protected class who should have the first and last say on all issues.

Any counter examples that challenge this worldview like the experiences of poor white people or minorities who are successful are either ignored or conveniently put into the successful privileged white person/Uncle Tom category and lose their chance to have valid opinions on anything. Also if you’re from this protected class and don’t agree with me you’re a white person.

119
iprobablyneedahobbyAngry Retard 😍•

What is craziest is that a black man who becomes successful is suddenly a white man but they simultaneously refuse to discern any noticeable difference in privilege between rich white people and poor white people.

158

Its even funnier because it literally implies that hes worked hard and earned the right to be white

96

I had this 'debate' (and by debate I mean I was talked at) about this in a Twitter thread the other day. I was told that every white man has institutional privilege no mater what. I asked about poor Eastern European and Russian men. I was told that black females still hold less institutional power than these men. Really tells you how small Twitter's understanding of the world is when they think the average black woman in America holds less power than Igor from Irkutsk who lives in a shack, lives off vodka, and has lost half his family to krokodil.

56
thugger1017•

I mean it's already backfired pretty fucking spectacularly. Donald Trump is president and neoliberalism has lost all pretenses of legitimacy. But even now, with the world literally on fire, they still can't grasp that the state of things is in any way related to the failures of their worldview. They've gotten even more myopic and superstitious. They've come to believe that whiteness is a literal, material force that can be used to explain all social malignancies.

They don't even expect their own worldview to make consistent sense. It wasn't built to entertain defeasibility propositions. There is no conceivable "outside" to "oppressive white heterosexual men," therefore any object of their criticism can only ever approach those boundaries, but never transcend them.

When a minority that you've involuntarily drafted into your racial crusade starts bucking the party line: it's not because they're having their own thoughts, it's definitely not because your original assessment was off. Instead they're necessarily nearing the event horizon of your worldview, where the devil be.

Chapelle could only have written those jokes under the influence of the devil himself. Since you've arrayed so many oppositional and contradictory forces into easily digestible pap, it's the only explanation you can use.

Dave Chapelle made me upset. Good folks are only threatened and made upset because of white heterosexual males, Dave Chapelle must become a white heterosexual male. Why else would I be so upset?

Anyone who ever read Wild Swans or other books about the Cultural Revolution in China has the hair on their necks stand up at this sort of thing.

In China, what 'colour' (class background) you were determined if you got mercilessly persecuted by youth gangs or not. After a few years, the original class background colours were replaced by a system where 'white' was pure evil. If you tried to be apolitical and do your job, you were 'white and expert'. If you respected elders, you were 'white' too. Deng Xiaoping's famous "It doesn't matter what colour the cat is, as long as it catches mice" wasn't just vague pragmatism, it was a direct refutation of the same sort of ludicrous colour labelling that makes Dave Chapelle a white man.

One of the biggest foundational tenets of woketardation is that minorities/women/transsexuals/whatever are inherently and infallibly correct when they speak on issues relating to their identity. When someone like Dave Chappelle comes along and disagrees with a Blue Check Approved^tm opinion, he exposes the utter stupidity of this foundational tenet, and risks collapsing the entire project. Therefore, in order to keep their worldview coherent, the wokies move to deprive their opponent of the quality that supposedly makes them correct - their identity.

Thus, Dave Chappelle is no longer black because if he were, it would mean woketards (especially white woketards) would have to unquestioningly take what he says as truth. To prevent that from happening, he must be made white so that his blasphemy can be dismissed out of hand.

In other words:

  1. Black = Correct

  2. White = Incorrect

  3. If Black = Incorrect, then that Black must actually = White

There's a tension in idpol that is going to be resolved and it's going to be nasty. Non-whites aren't as into sexual idpol as whites, if they're not outright against it. Zoomers are to the left of millenials on class (to the dismay of neoliberalism) and on race/immigration (to the dismay of tuckerstans/nazbols). But not on LGBT issues. Part of this is down to Zoomers being less white.

Expect more protests like that one in Birmingham in the future as immigration increases and expect neo-Rohmism to be the reaction.

After she profusely apologized and asked my forgiveness — and I knew her apology was sincere — she then said she was worried she’d now have to walk on eggshells whenever she wanted to say anything. I made it clear that if she chose to “walk on eggshells” it was because being sensitive to racism was important to her — not because she was tiptoeing over some “black minefield” to avoid getting in trouble with me in the future. .... Walking on eggshells is also the way you survive in an alcoholic family. Stand-up comedy is built on the risk of saying what shouldn’t be talked about with strangers, it centers around telling family secrets. You’re either telling on your family of origin, or on your husband or wife and kids, your boss at work, or yourself.

Or, maybe we shouldn't take the author literally. It was clear that they were not "reclassifying" Dave's race. They are using "white" as a stand in for certain attitudes and beliefs common among middle and upper class whites. Given the point of the author, the characterization is apt.

Or maybe they weren't trying to be literal. Maybe this reddit has it's head in the sand, but there a whole suite of attitudes and beliefs that dominate among whites(It's why most of them voted for Trump) and the author, for better or worse, is characterizing Dave in that manner. I highly doubt they literally believe all rich people are "white" and poor people "non-white".

Fucking THANK YOU. I can’t believe I had to scroll this far. Makes me wonder how much of it is principle that stays consistent and how much of it is just existing to be against something no matter what (which is exactly the MO of the two parties at the moment). This sub has a lot of people who hate liberals to hate them, not just who hate some of the nonsense being spoken (which is why I subbed).

What the author said is completely stupid, but a post like this here is really revealing. High upvoted comments with snark and “looool do I get an n-word pass now”, and then you close to the bottom with a shred of sense.

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. Seems like grasping at straws. I think all the people that are reading “we can’t even have class conversations without reading it as race and identity” could just as easily draw the opposite conclusion.

I read this as a criticism of only analyzing race because it’s illustrating that if we actually acknowledge class then we see that lumping him in with the economic parameters of what people typically imply by “black” doesn’t work anymore. So if anything I read this point as showing how limited racial categories are when class is introduced.

I expected real discussion in this thread because this seems to be core to what people here are here for in the first place, or at least I expected them to be here for.

But honestly this sub is a disappointment half the time because it’s usually an echo chamber. I’ve been in threads where I’ve tried having legitimate discussions with people and addressed all their points just to be told clearly I was a woman for writing such a long response (1- I’m not a woman, 2- not sure how systematically addressing each of someone’s points is a negative characteristic when not doing so is more of a legitimate criticism, 3- that’s the most pathetic “look at me being anti-woke” thing I’ve ever seen when your only rebuttal is proving that you can use identities as derogatory terms instead of engaging in a debate, which if anything shows the bankruptcy of your own mindset rather than the “wokie” one you’re trying to criticize because clearly you haven’t thought about this any more than a sixth grader).

One time the topic of esports came up just for people to circle jerk about how illegitimate esports are for competition and when I talked about it with any degree of real discussion I was just called a “faggot” for even liking esports.

I recommend you start actually looking at people’s comment and post history. You’ll quickly realize that this sub has plenty of right wingers and actual bigoted trolls. It’s just that this sub is the new “woke” because they realize saying faggot is okay and actually revolutionary, and opportunistic people just jump in and enjoy the climate of the sub while make zero actual contribution in criticizing identity politics or acknowledging class conflict. Most comments here are totally devoid of any real leftist content or real criticism and are just “hey, look at wokie libtard faggot example #294993” which anyone can do, leftist or not. Which is why this sub has plenty of non-leftists and inconsistencies in ideology. That’s why there is little to no engagement with this post that you would think could actually produce discussion here.

Because it doesn’t require real criticism or any ideology just to cash in on your faggot and “n-word pass” which is the lowest common denominator of this sub.

You rite. A lot more people think idpol is ridiculous than just other leftists with a class-focused perspective.
