A request for anyone who believes in the democratic process - Help out a Calgary candidate get on the ballot

Politics

This post was still relevant around 2pm, September 18th.

Yes, I'll be chastised and will probably have this post deleted since I decided I didn't want this lost in the megathread.

This is to anyone who believes in the democratic process whether you intend to go out and vote or not. At the downtown Safeway 813 11 Ave SW, Calgary, AB entrance there is a brave woman not looking for votes, not asking you to vote, not asking you to vote for her party, but to simply sign a signature form to get her on the ballot for the NDP.

Look for the lady (Jessica Buresi) with the clipboard! She should be noticeable but she isn't out there with big orange NDP signage. I'm not affiliated with her campaign; she isn't aware I'm making this post; I'm not voting for the NDP; but I respect her for selling her soul to the political process to become a candidate for one of the parties. If you are in the area and are looking to help her get on the ballot please swing by!

Mike Petch

EDIT:

Jessica Buresi is trying to confirm her running for Calgary Centre as an NDP candidate and would need signatures of eligible voters from that riding.

It was the candidate herself looking for signatures in the community she would represent. I didn't get a chance to ask her what happened to the previous NDP candidate though.

As I said in the post, I'm not affiliated with her nor does she even know I posted the request. She's out there engaging with those people in her community, and the constituency. A nice old lady (on my way out of the store) actually had some question about some problem she had with getting benefits as a senior.

As mentioned if you can’t get the support to get on the ballot from people in the riding why are you standing at a grocery store begging?

If you can’t get the signatures the democratic process has already spoken.

I'm guessing that going to a hub of activity (like the high traffic Safeway) makes a lot more sense with the clock running.

Such another wasted opportunity for the NDP. If they had a good candidate or rooted someone here for awhile, they could win cc. The riding is quickly becoming left of centre, slash has been for years, or at least a bellweather riding. About 55-60 percent of the population votes for centre, centre left, or green party.

Plus Kent hehr is such a disaster on the federal level.

The NDP's website says Jessica Buresi is running for Calgary Centre.

I am not following what this lady is trying to do.

Her status isn't confirmed. The electors.ca website for Calgary Centre only has 3 candidates confirmed and those are:

Thana BOONLERT Green Party of Canada; Chevy JOHNSTON People's Party of Canada; Greg MCLEAN Conservative Party of Canada.

Although the NDP may have her listed on their website elections Canada still needs her as a confirmed candidate by the end of the month (September 30th is the last day). Part of the requirements for confirmation include 100 eligible electors in the riding to sign (name, address, signature) agreeing to her candidacy. Elections Canada recommends getting 150 signatures as many may not qualify and they rather a candidate be safe than sorry.

This is what support lists are for. You hit up the doors of the people who have said they voted NDP in the past. The parties have this data. You don't petition at Safeway.

Good luck on your quest OP but I must politely decline

I’m having a hard time finding a candidate this election that lines up with my views. I’m also finding it hard to figure out what exactly my mp does as far as representing the riding. Stephanie McLean really was only noteworthy for the first woman to have a baby while sitting in legislature. I’m not sure what Len Weber’s done since he was elected but people seem to like him because there’s already a shitload of lawn signs out. Politicians all seem to be full of empty promises to get elected with goals that are either unattainable or unfeasable over a single term thus being dependent on being re elected. Has anybody in their specific riding seen any sort of change when they choose these people to represent them or am I overthinking?

The conservatives have to with Calgary Centre. Kent should not be a political figure anymore. How he is still in the liberal party is beyond questionable.

No way. Jagmeet singh totally screwed over one of his own candidates in sask to try and look better by virtue signalling. No way will I support anything federal NDP while that guy is at the helm.

Unfortunately, she has absolutely zero presence, anywhere. She could get the signatures if she reached out for them. I had to dig to find this...

Still nothing. I found this post while looking for information on her. I don't even know what she looks like.
