Just purchased the 11 using the Costco deal and traded in my iPhone 7. Called T-Mobile and have my number ported to the esim. Here is the question - can I ask T-Mobile to unlock the physical sim so that I could use another carrier if I travel overseas? Thanks.

There is no physical SIM vs. eSIM unlock I don't think. Both follow the activation policy on the phone. Here is info on how to get the phone unlocked: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588

If paid for outright then you just need to use the phone on Tmobile’s network for forty days (on postpaid) before it is eligible to be permanently unlocked.

You can call T Mobile and ask for a temporary unlock and are going abroad.
iPhones can’t have a temporary unlock as Apple deals with it so it will actually be unlocked forever.

It can be abused but not everyone wants to go through the effort.
I'm getting an iPhone 11 through their iPhone 11 on us promo and planning to give to my wife for use on Verizon. How complicated is to get a temporary unlock; isn't it just going through T-force or CS via chat? "Going through the effort" sounds "complicated"
