Can’t Vote Liberal

In many ways the liberals stand for the same things I do- climate change, LGBTQ rights, women’s healthcare. However, this assault on Law abiding Canadian gun owners is unconscionable.

It seems that going after people who have been screened, and are currently licensed to hold non-restricted (semi autos), restricted (hand guns and the AR 15) and prohibited (small caliber and short barrelled handguns) is a small minded approach to address a real problem.

If we take just the proposed buy back of one rifle - the AR 15, at the indicated $1500/rifle with a claimed quarter of a million registered - we quickly arrive at a dollar value that could make a real difference - if applied to a real problem.

Are these guns being used by criminals in Canada - NO. Are they easy for criminals to get - N0. Are they or their owners part of the problem- no.

What are the consequences of the liberal proposal. Well some sports become more onerous to participate in.

Take cowboy mounted shooting. Here a real revolver uses blanks to pop balloons while riding a horse. It is a competition that celebrates history is fun, safe and should be allowed to continue.

So, the liberal party is off the mark here and I am going to have to give my vote to someone who will address real problems in a meaningful way.

Yah cuz semi automatic assault rifles and easily concealable handguns totally don't make it easier to kill a bunch of people faster, they're just for making hunting really really fast! lol

The gun used in the Quebec City Mosque shooting killing 6 people - Kodiak Defence CZ 858, semi-automatic similar to an AK47, previously restricted, now fitted with a 19" barrel to get past the restricted classification making them easier to buy.

The gun used in the Danforth shooting in Toronto killing 3 people - Smith & Wesson M&P .40-caliber, semi-automatic, short barrelled making it easy to conceal.

The gun used in the Fredericton Mass Shooting killing 4 people - Unknown but confirmed by the New Brunswick RCMP to have been legally obtained by the shooter as they were a licensed restricted gun owner.

Feel free to not vote for the Liberals as that is your right but do it based on facts, not made up garbage by the conservative propaganda machine.

Assault rifles are capable of fully automatic and as such are already illegal in Canada.

Semi automatic rifles are ubiquitous in Canada, and are used for predator and pest control on many farms.

For example I use a semi automatic Ruger 10/22 for rodent control and a .233 semi auto for coyotes who go after my calves.

Functionally there is little difference between my non-restricted firearms and the restricted AR - except aesthetics and a subjective classification.

I have done nothing wrong and do not see the justification to spend this kind of money to disproportionately go after those of us who are not a risk.

I have owned handguns since I bought my first one under the old FAC system. I have cherished heirlooms that were carried by my great grandfather.

Violent acts will continue, criminals will continue to get guns - even if you take mine away.

The last time this was tried it cost the canadian taxpayer 2 billion dollars and did little to promote public safety.

This again will cost millions to billions of dollars without touching the core issues.

Perhaps you should consider your own propaganda sources? Perhaps you should consider the impact on the many valid sporting, hunting and historical reasons for gun ownership.

Money and the want someone has to hunt are far outweighed by the value of human life. Perhaps you should consider your lack of respect for human life and immoral behaviour.

Perhaps you should evaluate the effectiveness of these proposed measures before you judge my moral character and respect for human life?

My moral character is officially assessed every 5 years. This includes a search for any offences and checking of my character references.

I have a 30 year history of firearms ownership without any criminal violations.

I have tools that I use in my workplace and do not appreciate this demonization by the liberal party and their uninformed lackeys.

For example - I judge your attempted character assassination as immoral.

Note here I am judging your actions against my person, your attempt to slander and minimize my concerns as a law abiding citizen who will be directly and negatively affected by a bad law.
