You are basically talking about creating a small town from scratch.

That's very roughly equivalent to the size of the False Creek Olympic Village, but probably with smaller buildings. They also don't have to demolish anything to build on the site or work around existing infrastructure. It doesn't seem that unrealistic to me. I would like to see some space included for growing food but you can't have everything, I guess.
Whether it will ever happen is a whole different story.

Are you kidding? Pull it up in Google Earth. Yeah the gravel pit is flat but how bout the other 90% of the site? This would be a massive project if done as advertised.

I'm not disagreeing that this will bring the PO'ed NIMBY locals out in force but something has to be done with that area.
Ever looked up the history there?
Landslides have twice destroyed settlements & human lives it's an unstable location and few if any want to settle there for that reason.
