Players from the early 2000's who's would transition even better currently?

The game's changed a lot since the early 2000's.

Any example of players who would flourish even more in today's league?

Kevin Garnett would basically be the perfect modern 5. Elite passer, off ball player, stretches the floor, could guard every position, and was the best p&r defending big ever. He'd be in the GOAT convo if he slightly extended his range to 3 (and got better teammates)

Callme_MrClean24•

He'd be in the convo if he was on pretty much any team other than the twolves when he played

Anytime someone says a player would be "in the GOAT conversation" it's basically meaningless. All time ranking has everything to do with your career, and we don't know what his would be. Top 10 tho

I mean you its kinda like ranking players from different eras.

Think steph could of played in the 60s?

How bout wilt or bill russell in todays game?

wasnt the comp for AD before the draft

He was an inferno that season. Pretty sure he was a top 2 or 3 MVP candidate until C-Web came back from injury and messed up the flow of the team

First person to come to mind, Dude wouldve been amazing today

are you confusing him with turkoglu? peja isnt even turkish

Shit, my bad. You're right.

Tmac would kill it in this era.

long2sniperRaptors•

Prime Tmac with 4 shooters would be nasty.

13
TimDuncanCanDunk•

He'd probably be like PG with more explosive scoring and better playmaking

6
lpeaden23Magic•

I’d say he’d be more like Durant, but smaller. Guy averaged 32 a game in a slow, defensive league on good efficiency.

13
TimDuncanCanDunk•

Shawn Marion could be the best switchable defender rn while averaging a fuck ton of rebounds and catching all these alley oops

Short_Swordsman•

Good friend of mine was on the Shawn Marion Hall of Fame Train a good ten years ago, and that long-winded tumblr post changed how I understand basketball.

Super underrated. His switchabilty on defence and his ability to handle the ball as a wing player. He'd be an excellent grab and go guy, able to push the pace and find shooters in transition.

I think Kevin Garnett- in terms of raw talent, is a top 8-10 player of all time.

I think he could’ve solidified himself as a more cerebral version of Giannis- and more skilled all-around player, yet perhaps not as physically gifted- despite being himself an athletic specimen.

Reggie Miller was a victim of his time- although his prime was closer to the 90s- securing only 5x all star selections despite a career 61% TS and elevating his game like few players can during the playoffs. He’d average an efficient 26-30 today- with per100 splits reminiscent of somebody like Curry.

Shawn Marion would play smallball 5, or be a modern day 4 and be a capable shooter, rebounder and one of the better defenders in the league.

Gilbert Arenas is another one- he’d be like a more out of control Damian Lillard- with Klay Thompson levels of microwave-ability.

Rasheed Wallace.

From that Pistons team I think all of Sheed, Chauncey and Tayshaun would be an even better fit for today's game. Tayshaun would be that super lanky wing everybody craves with all the switching. Billups was an outlier with his 3 pt volume back in like 2004 today teams would be craving that

10
TimDuncanCanDunk•

Rip was moving like redick offball too, so I could see him playing amazingly in a motion offense like the warriors, and on top of that, he was a great perimeter defender. Ben Wallace could also be that switchable elite post defender and rim protector that everyone wants while grabbing close to 15 rpg. That whole detroit starting lineup would be so good rn.

Markkanen reminds me of young sheed

nah Markannen’s only comp can be Dirk

Mehmet Okur he was a good shooter who could pass and was solid defensively he fizzled out because his skill set wasn't what teams wanted in the 00's

11
CaptainThanus•

He fizzled out do to a torn Achilles

4
Zurgadai_RushRaptors•

He'd be be way more valuable on offense but I think he'd struggle more defensively. Really I'd need to see how he moved if he slimmed down, I think the Okur we saw would have a lot of difficulty guarding the modern spaced PnR offenses

Chris Bosh

Grant Hill, high IQ playmaking wing who could do a bit of everything.

Was great in his day, would be maybe a better fit today (assuming health).

Also, from much longer back, Pistol Pete and Jerry West both stretched the floor before the 3pt line. Jerry's already a legend, but Petes playmaking and craftiness would kill in transition and with distance shooting keeping the floor spaced.

Im going to include the 90s

Chris webber would be a great 5 today

Steve nash would probably be better as well

Robert horry would be the perfect 5

KG

Larry johnson probably would of had a better career now a days

Chris mullin/dan majerle/detlef schrempf would of been killer floor spreaders for a title contender

Reggie miller

Lots more some super obvious some not.

Rashard Lewis would make a solid stretch 4
... not the most amazing answer, but the first one that came to my mind somehow...

5
jknuts1377[BOS] Xavier McDaniel•

Well, he already was when he was on Orlando's finals team. Turkoglu was the SF who was more of a point forward.

4
abarthsimpson•

Donyell Marshall.

5
sirfray[SAC] Vince Carter•

I mean VC is the obvious answer since he’s the only one to literally transition from the early 2000s to currently.

4

Lamar Odom

Ray Allen no doubt.

3
gonzo_ballSupersonics•

I actually think ray might get kinda lost in the shuffle today because a lot of his value came from shooting a modern amount of 3s 10-15 years ago.

8
icecoaster131976ers•

His game was so diverse early in his career. Really underrated off the bounce.

6
gonzo_ballSupersonics•

He was, I agree. People sometimes compare him to Klay which just isn't a good comp at all. But is he a top 6 guard in the nba today? Idk about that

3
PinheadXXXXXXWarriors•

He’d probably be about as good as Bradley Beal

1
SuperRedditLand[MIL] Ish Smith•

He was also super athletic though. He wasn’t just a spot up shooter, he was even in the dunk contest.

1
gonzo_ballSupersonics•

Oh for sure. He was a good athlete and could definitely get to the rim but his passing and handle weren't anything special in today's game. He was a more a classic shooting guard archetype, not a combo guard.
