My (30f) boyfriend (42m) has been texting a much younger female, I finally snapped.

So my boyfriend of almost 7 years has been texting a 20 year old female for a while now. She is a co-worker, whom at times he talks about to me. But its to the point I find it very uncomfortable. It started out as an innocent mention here or there, she's ethnic and we have a male friend who is the same ethnicity, we'll call him John. John is the same age as myself and my boyfriend told him about this girl and suggested they could go on a date, then later tells John she said he's too old. Which I thought was pretty fucked up considering my boyfriend was the one to mention her in the first place. I digress, back to the part where my boyfriend has been texting her, so I was told her father is a home repairman and could help fix up our house (we just bought together, big step for being unwed) supposedly the father of this girl shows up one day and never comes back, which was weird because I was home all day and didn't see or met this guy. So now I feel like my boyfriend has planted this story in my head to justify texting her. Now she's texting at dinner time and I took notice. Then when he was showering I got nosey and checked his messages. It's sort of innocent texting, but very flirtatious at the same time. The type of texting where its at 8 am and she's asking about his night. And the texting is often, during the day, fun little messages. The type of stuff he never does with me. She's a child in my opinion, I too was once a pretty 20 year old so I understand where an older man can seem like a fun challenge. Yesterday she and he were exchanging texts and he mentioned her and I snapped. I told him I have a hard time pretending this texting is okay, we're not married, I just bought this house which I really didn't want to do but since we lived together prior I felt trapped like I wouldnt have a place to go if I didnt go along with this. I wanted to get married and have kids with this man, at least I felt I did. Now I am worried he's really a fucking creep at this point. His response to me was like he was shell shocked, he calmly told me "ok I won't text her anymore". Just ok. He wouldn't even look me in the eye. There wasn't much reaction from him and I was in tears yelling at this point. I poured my heart out explaining everytime I get on the subject of marriage and kids I feel like I am talking to a fucking child. I told him I couldn't wait forever and I wasn't going to waste my childbearing years only to look back 15 years from now and feel like I wasted this time away. I also told him if he is unhappy to tell me and dont lead me on. I don't know if I should believe him, he barely shared his feelings. I don't know what to do at this point. I feel trapped in this house. If he proposed tomorrow for the sake of thinking it would keep me I can honestly say I wouldn't want to marry him. I feel like I took a sword to the chest. Please share some advice on how you might handle the situation.

Your correct, but I doubt he would agree to some type of counseling. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but this situation still makes me wonder in the back of my mind if he's a creep. And for that I just don't know if paying to figure this out would be worth it.

I don't know if I am. I dont know how I really feel, I know I feel like I am pissed and hurt about this particular situation, and I certainly wished he could be more open to me about his feelings. I don't know if throwing in the towel yet, it would be a tough move so quickly. Do you think I over reacted?

This seems like a pattern for him. You were also in your early 20s when he first became involved with you. Now he's a man in his 40s in a LTR and can't have an adult conversation with you about marriage and children. He's telling you without saying the words. Do you really need to hear it from him? Are his actions not enough?

If you purchased a house together, I hope that means you contributed to the downpayment, so I don't understand why you were concerned about feeling cornered into the purchase and not having a place to go if you didn't go along with it. If I were you, I'd negotiate a buyout if he wants to keep the house or sell it and move on, otherwise, you will look back 15 years from now and your fear will have become a reality. Good luck.

You need to have a sit down heart to heart. Without screaming and yelling. He doesn't understand. I suspect that he gets it's really important, but probably doesn't understand the urgency. His time perspective is completely different from yours.

The fact he's telling you about the texts suggests it's innocent. Guilty minds hide guilty actions. That doesn't mean there isn't attraction there, young women are absolutely attractive. But he's in his 40s, his libido isn't that of a 20 or 30 yo and in men the big brain usually finally gets control during their 30s. Most likely it's nothing more than an ego boost.

Lay it all out, calmly, just as you did here. Your fears, insecurities, your hopes, your needs, what you expect from him and ask him how committed he is. If he's avoiding discussion about marriage / kids there may be something he doesn't like and is avoiding rather than facing with you. It's something you have to go over regardless and get agreement on.

From your description, it sounds like he's committed to you but appreciated the attention he was getting. Get a firm date for the things you are looking for from the relationship.

he barely shared his feelings

This is completely normal.

Ughhhhh!!!! Ok so I’ll start off by saying THIS is the reason younger girls are so annoying. They usually haven’t had the heartbreak experience so they don’t show other women’s relationships respect. (I remember being that girl in my lower 20s and would never do that to a woman ever again). So this little piece of work needs to be told that she can’t be reaching out at all hours as it’s kind of really weird as they are coworkers with a huge age gap (this isn’t a fricken porno this is real life). If he can’t tell her that and he won’t let you tell her that then the decision needs to be that there are no responses outside of business hours unless it is strictly professional. If he can’t accept that then tell him to go find himself a girl under age 24 for the rest of his life because I don’t know any women that would be stoked about this.

Like in my experience In a relationship I would rather ghost someone than do something I know might hurt my SOs feelings just to have an unnecessary argument that will lead to trust issues. Not worth it.

I don’t care if they are “just friends”. He needs to get his little fantasy out of his head and man up for you! The girl needs to be banned from communication outside of business hours or work related projects / juicy gossip!!!

You sound like an idiot. She does have authority and rights to demand certain boundaries in her relationship. Texting a coworker constantly outside of work and then an inability to discuss openly and honestly is childlike on his part. If she told him her feelings about the situation and then he basically did not acknowledge them, she definitely has a right to her feelings. Your statements invalidate her feelings about the situation entirely.

Read the whole thing. First a 42 year old man texting a 20 year old girl in frequently in almost any circumstance is highly inappropriate in most situations. Any dude with two brain cells could figure out that this could potentially lead to problems in his relationship and weigh the risks and benefits. Is it really worth a relationship or introducing issues where there weren’t any before concerning the topic? Also, when she did address it with him, he didn’t make the effort to discuss or share his thoughts or reasoning, which makes it seem even more suspicious that he KNEW his intentions were not purely friendship.
