Something decent around $200 USD, open to used/refurbs

US
  • Country: US

•Carrier: Verizon

•Price: $100-250 USD

•Size Preference: Around 6"

•What will it be used for: Mostly utilility, music, messaging. Gaming would be a perk, but is not a dealbreaker.

•Preferred brands: Samsung, ASUS, but open to anything that checks the most boxes below

•Other: notification LED is VERY important, 3000+mAh battery, SD card slot, full 4G compatibility

I'm going to be replacing two phones: a Huawei Honor 6X and a Samsung Galaxy S7. Ideally, I'd be getting two of the same make/model to replace these. Lack of notification LED is a dealbreaker.

Consider a new mid-tier phone like a Moto G7 vs a used premium 2+ year old phone. Just my suggestion if the camera and durability is not a high priority and you want it to just work.

Does it have a notification LED? My previous experience with Moto (and quick Googling) tells me it's sadly a no.

Technically yes. But Lenovo who owns Moto disables it for notifications. They utilize the whole screen in certain areas to light up. They call it Moto Screen.

The LED light is for charging only it seems without effort to mod the phone to do what you want.

That would be fine, as long as it continues to notify in some fashion. Does it blink, or flash, or otherwise notify after the initial alert?

Unknown. You'd have to look up what Moto Screen allows. I don't have experience with a G7. I'm responding to you on an HTC U11 with notification light. My backup phone Moto E4 does not have a notification light. The light only shows it's charging or not.

But Moto Screen on the G7 sounds promising. Might be better actually.

Interesting. I've never paid attention to notification LEDs. Mine is always flashing.

My wife and I are both obsessive about making sure notifications are cleared. We've tried to break the habit previously with Moto devices, but always ended up going back within a month or so.

I could spend all day clearing notifications.
