Zebra F402

So nice. Try it and you will not be disappoint.

19
tdreyer1•

Eh, I gotta go with the Zebra F-701. All metal, knurled grip, refillable, well balanced, all around wonderful pen.

15
[deleted]•

...my god. it even has a watermark.

11
moshmoshmosh•

Is something wrong? You're sweating...

2
[deleted]•

The balance really is a big part of what makes the F701 my favorite pen. I can spin that bad boy around my finger all day.

8
[deleted]•

I have that pen in my hand right now and it's got a lot more weight on the writing end. Maybe it's because i took the clip off?

1
zerstoeren•

I use Zebra for my pencil, but that is damn sexy; although a .5 mm kind-a-guy.

2
NowThisIsHappening•

Gotta say, that's my 2nd choice pen. Excellent for outdoor conditions due to the knurled grip and stainless quality.

For extended writing the knurled part kills my finger though, so for me, this is a smoother analogue of that Zebra.

1
drstupid•

this is a smoother analogue of that Zebra.

What pen is that? Is it a Zebra? I love the F-402, I think I'm going to buy a F-701 but I'm not sure about the knurled grip and that seems perfect.

1
ds0196•

I use a Zebra F-301 just about everyday and would never trade. I have never used a pen that writes so smoothly, clearly, and effortlessly. However, I imagine most of the Zebra pens write similarly.

It has a matchng mechanical pencil.

1

I love Zebra steel! I've had this one mechanical pencil for a decade now.

1

I just ordered a dozen. I hope they change my life.

1
frederik1821•

-ed. thats disapointed.

1
[deleted]•

Fuck yes man. I use that bad ass mother fucker of a pen every day. I have 3 of them in the drawer to my left.

Actually i take that back, the M402 is the baddest ass mother fucker of a mechanical pencil.

Ooh, tell me more! I always roll with a G2 Bold and a Pilot V5 Retractable in my back pocket.

3
[deleted]•

Well if we're talking everyday use, I roll with a Zebra F-301. I stole my first from my dads bookshelf when I was a wee lad and I've been hooked ever since.

I've even been known to own the Compact version from time to time.

6
heybooboo•

No way! Two best pens: Pilot Dr Grip is my everyday writer for short notes and underlining, etc., and the Namiki Vanishing Point is a great, if a bit expensive, fountain pen. That fountain pen takes a beating, has a retractable golden tip, and writes beautiful, smooth ink onto a page.

6
GeneralFailure0•

I bought a couple of F-301s and some of the ink refills recently, and was super disappointed when the plastic piece which screws into the metal piece cracked and rendered the pen useless. I think I just lost the other one. Should I give them another chance? Is the F402 a little sturdier?

1
[deleted]•

My favorite all time pen is the Zebra G-301. It looks exactly the same as your link but has gell ink so it's writes and flows like a dream. It is the only pen I will use.

1
prettyjellybean•

The V5 is very nice also but I always bend the tip. :\

1
dpjames•

That's why you need the V5 Retractable!

2
NowThisIsHappening•

Yes! Excellent quality fountain pen for the price! Very reliable day-to-day writer, although occasionally the writing does need to be blotted, such as in a book where it will be pressed against another page. I have used nicer ($30-$50) fountain pens for years and picked up one of these Varsity pens up on a whim for under $3.00. It performs just as nicely, if not more consistently, than refillable ones.

1
some_freakin_fink•

This man is full of lies. The finest pen is not a pen at all, rather a refill for the Space Pen - pressurized to 35psi and able to write underwater or at any angle as long as needed. The refill is small enough to discretely fit in my wallet so I have a pen at all times. My particular (current) refill was left outside after a block party this summer for almost a week. It was run over god knows how many times by cars and crushed flat with rock chips/scrapes everywhere. Not only does it work flawlessly still, but the flatness allows it to be even more flat in the wallet! http://www.rei.com/product/691136?preferredSku=6911360029

1
celphtitled•

Also, when I created an account I never really expected to be on this site as much as I have been.

1
Thumperings•

This (the black version) is the best pen I've ever used bar none, and I've tried many many thousands in 40 years. They stopped making this one and replaced it with THIS Which is absolute shit by comparison, (gelly, blotches etc.) (and yet still great) but the former was runny ink not gel-like but dried fast. beautiful pen. Effortless writing. You can still find them on Ebay sometimes.

They are a lefty's best friend.

12
vwllss•

I'm a lefty and I've heard this a lot so I think I'm gonna order some. Any preference on V5 vs V7?

7
zerstoeren•

I live for Precise v5 RT I write in cursive and very fast and it doesn't leave random blotches that a .7 would.

9

Whodathought I'd get good advice from r/circlejerk. Uppens for all

I just tried out my first Precise v5 (non-RT). This pen is awesome. Thank you, sir.

2

They worked out a lot of the bugs in V7.

5
userchris•

Another v5 here. I've tried the 5 and 7, but I've personally stuck with the v5. Big fan of the slightly finer point.

5
jakemates•

V5.

no wonder i like them so much...

2
smokecat20•

hell yeah! thought no one would ever say it.

3
[deleted]•

I hate these pens with all my life!

The only way these will not dispense their entire ink reserve on the paper is if you hold it in place for a femtosecond, other wise you end up with a huge blob of ink and inked hands.

2
SmightOP•

I enjoy using those for precise inking of drawings and the like and it makes a nice signature, but the dry time seems to be close to an eternity.

2
BrotherSeamus•

Plus they won't fucking leak all over your shirt pocket.

3
FriedTwinkies•

i use to love skilcraft us goverment pens. had a hard time finding it though. then this came along: bic cristal bold smoothest, blackest cheap pen i own. walmart had it at a pack of 10 for 48 cents. bought 2, went back the next day, bought 12.

4
NowThisIsHappening•

These are the best for "endurance writing" sessions. Smooth, consistent dark ink. The hexagonal profile offers grip, while the smooth barrel won't tear up your finger. A+ disposable!

1
selectrix•

Somehow those aren't quite as good as the Round Stic for brush-drawing, though.

1
drexhex•

Is this the same pen (but in black ink)?

1
Dantae•

The ones I used to order for my division were black. They were ok pens but I always found a way to sneak some G2 PILOTs onboard. I just preferred the more bold black lines that it would put on paper. In low light levels it was easier to read.

3
OGrilla•

My parents are both military and used to have these pens everywhere around our house. Very fine pens indeed.

2
[deleted]•

Upvoted as inaccurate.

This is infact the best pen evar.

1
Realworld•

Pilot G-2 05 and 07 are my favorite pens, but I do find their inability to write while lying on my back annoying.

4
TurboDragon•

On your back, underwater or in space!

This is a great pen. I carry the bullet version on me at all times.

Sorry, but those pens are garbage. They never seem to work when you need them to, and they fall apart easily. You'll find components of these pens littering every office in the Army. Regardless, these seem to be the only brand of pen that the Army orders.

0
zoydberg•
22
Norflex•

awesome!

2
Deleriant•

While that looked interesting, even though I hate writing with any pen, I couldn't get to the end of the "instructable" because of all the damned ads.

2
urbancorsair•

Just buy the refill and use it like a pen. It's sturdy enough.

0
renegade_9•

but everyone'll want to use it. No one wants to borrow a G2.

2
Volt•

No way man. Parker Jotter for life.

11
AlsoSprach•

You can put a Fisher Space Pen refill into the Jotter, and then you have pen that writes upside down and under water, too.

2
floydiandroid•

I love the Jotter. The all stainless one.

1
jordanfstop•

Yes! Thank God somebody mentioned the Parker Jotter. I go with the half stainless, about two dollars cheaper. Classic, classy, smoother than a baby's bottom, and surprisingly comfortable. I use this to write all of my documentations at work (EMT.)

1
pjdavis•

the precise v5s are a much better pen for about $.30 more. they also come in a retractable version.

11
dpjames•

The retractable version is essential.

2
jakemates•

YES. I have been trying to convince everyone I know that these are the greatest pens of all time. Finally, someone else agrees with me.

2
userchris•

It's amazing just how awesome they are. I personally don't like the retractable version; I've grown accustomed to the feel of the plain one.

2

I dare anyone to beat a matte black space pen.

1

The military pen is quite good too. Same ink piece in a some-what similar designed body but it click instead of having a cap. same price too. http://media.rei.com/media/691132Lrg.jpg

got this first but it made an annoying clicking noise when I wrote. Had to switch to the regular space pen.

Personal favorite right here.

1
alienangel2•

These are still my all time favourites, although the one I had had a black nib. They make ball points in that model too if that's your taste!

8
OhJesusWOW•

Once you try a nib-tip you never go back. I picked one up last year just for the hell of it and after a few days of getting used to it, I couldn't go back. I also bought a Victorian inkwell nib-tip for my home office which is pretty bad ass but mostly just for novelty. Anyways, yes, these are the best pens ever.

2
TurboDragon•

These are most pen per dollar you can get, ever.

But overall, I prefer this one.

1
reverendnathan•

Love my Safari. I also have a Parker 51, which is a medium tip. I found I like a medium writing line more, so what'd I do? Pay $11 and get a new nib for my Lamy! Brilliant! Every part replaceable. I can use my own ink color of choosing. Always ready to write: never a scribble on the sidelines trying to get my pen to work. Comfy. Super durable.

And the biggest reason: it's an obnoxious color of yellow, so I can always find it if I lose it around the house or office. Huzzah! The orange one would be a good buy too if you are the same as me.

1
igetript•

I can't believe no one has mentioned the greatest pen ever made.

7
fluba•

Completely agree. Although I always seem to lose it within 2 weeks. That or the pen gnome follows me around whenever he learns that I just bought a new Zebra.

2
reverendnathan•

I like pencil in that series. Tiny eraser, but awesome design.

1
deminhead•

I go with the RT 0.7 model. At my old job, the people on my stops were blown away by them. I started giving them to the ones I needed favors from. $5 a pack.

2

yay just searched for this one so I could upboat you!

1
LuciferBowels•

[X] Retractable [X] Smooth stroke [X] Comfortable [ ] Ink Doesn't smear

This pen fails miserably, if you have a job with a lot of paperwork this is a complete noob pen.

5
reverendnathan•

It's not the choice for a lefty, I can tell you that (lefties tend to "drag" their hand along the paper. If the ink isn't quick to dry or you are using graphite, expect smuding).

1
dpjames•

So where's the pen subreddit?

4
selectrix•

You mean you're not in r/Pen15?

1
dpjames•

Brilliantly played, sir. I haven't laughed at any application of that joke in at least 15 years.

2
selectrix•

It doesn't work as well when it's all in print...

1
reverendnathan•

No disrespect, but it would be eventually overrun with nib writers. You can't get those pens from the office supply store (except for Pilot Varsity, which is a good place to start). The forum would quickly turn into a haven for vintage pen restoration, advice on ink colors and durability, flamewars between vacuum and sack fillers, and so on. All the posts about rollerballs would be downvoted and never see the light of day.

3

caps rule- try the uni-ball signo, you can get them really cheap by the box! the advantage is the leverage provided by the cap on the end. i find that they provide consistency for my drawings and never blot.
