Pulling a prank on my buddy - reverse griefing?

So I convinced one of my buddies to finally pick up Minecraft yesterday and he started in on single player for a few hours and had a good time.

Today I set up a SMP server right before I have to take off to meet another friend for dinner, but I sent my Minecraft buddy the IP address before taking off. When I get home he has left me a message that he messed around on the server and got a little mine started. I log in and notice he has really taken to minecraft with gusto, a nice workshop just inside his mine entrance, a nice staircase with recessed lighting leading down into the depths onto a landing before linking up with a cave system.

I start digging my own mine but was not in the mood to start another deep shaft. So i started to think of pranks I could pull on my buddy that did not involve destroying his stuff.

I started covering up the entrance to my friends mine with dirt, but it would be pretty obvious what I had done. I notice that further down the mountain face there is a blank area and get the idea of replicating the entrance to his mine, after which I ended up replicating his workshop, and then the stairs down into the earth, all for the sake of trying to extend the illusion of what I have done. Several hours later I find myself with a complete replica of the man made portion of my friends mine and roughly replicated the tunnels until I ran into the actually tunnels, at which point I sealed up any paths that led back to his original staircase/entrance.

I even had to export the map to single player then back into SMP to get around the water placement bug.

Here is a gallery of the handy work, read image comments for explanations: http://imgur.com/a/3aUZ6

EDIT: Ok so he must have logged in this morning, there are minor improvments to his castle, but from what I can tell he has not noticed yet.. heheheheh

Constructive pranks are the best.

Now if you'll excuse me I've gotta go plant more TNT in my friend's base...

Yeah they are! I'm immature and find it hilarious to build giant penises on other people's structures when no one is near by. Link 1 Link 2

Curious to hear about his reaction... this is almost creepy, haha. I would poop if I were in his shoes and accidentally found my original mine.

I read

I would poop if I were in his shoes

as

I would poop in his shoes

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME

I read exactly what you did.

As a note, if you have admin on the server you can just give yourself water blocks to get around the water placement issue.

I gave myself the bucket of water through admin, and the places block of water dissapeared.

Yep. Give yourself a water spring block instead. It will look odd and give you a square block of flowing water in your hand that you can place but not pick up. It places springs correctly.

Ah ok, :) thanks for the heads up

You can also give yourself ice blocks. Break them and water flows out.

I set up my server and tried the /give command over and over to fix the furnace issue and the water issue with no result - meaning no items showed up. I've looked around but don't see anything that I'm doing wrong. Any tips?

Now you have to creepily guide him to digging up his own cave/workshop so he flips his shit.

I agree with this. Don't tell him, just let him trip across it.

My advice... putting some running water in his mine. This way he'll hear the water and dig to it and find his mine naturally, then it's brick shitting time!

If you really want to scare him shitless you could try editting HIM onto a portrait and get him to upload "this optimized texture pack, your game runs so much smoother!" or some other BS so he'll install a texture pack that's the same as the current with the HIM added and put a portrait in his old mine so when he finds it "HIM" is there waiting.

[edit] - If you do this PLEASE get him on ventrilo or something, I wanna hear his reaction. =)

My initial thought was something along the lines of...well.

Picture you've got a home, you're digging around, and suddenly you broach a dark area. You drop a torch and-- it's your home.

Except not.

You run your fingers along what seems like a duplicate of the workbench you left upstairs, leaving a clean smear in the thick layer of dust. Glancing around, you see the long-dead torches that festoon the house you left not ten feet away. Carefully relighting them, you draw your sword and look around...

There's long scratches and notches in the walls around you. Some small, some large, but the small ones look familiar...placing your sword up against one of them, you see that it matches perfectly. Slightly unnerved, you begin hunting, looking to see if there's any indication of what might cause someone to flail wildly enough to put scratches that deep into solid rock.

Upon closer inspection, behind the bedroom, you see a dark aclove. Placing a torch into it, you see it goes backwards, deep into the earth. You explore a bit into it but, telling yourself that you don't have the equipment for a cave trawling, you hesitate, then wall up the passageway. As you proceed back, you notice more gouges in the floor. Kneeling down, you pick something white out of one of them...it appears to be a fingernail.

Spreading your hands against the gouges, you see they match the placement of your fingers perfectly.

Keeping your panic under just enough control, you stride quickly back to where you originally came back into this unnerving spectre of a house. Closing off the wall, you lean against it, breathing heavily...and then stop. Slowly, palms sweating against the hilt of your pickaxe, you walk across your house, stopping at the wall behind your bedroom.

You strike the earth. Once, twice, thrice, you come across nothing but solid stone. Starting to breathe easier, you tell yourself that it was nothing, just your imagination playing tricks, and you think of how you'll make a fine closet here--

And then your pickaxe swings through empty air. With a chuff of disintigrating rock, the stink of deep, dead places rushes past your face, causing the torches in your bedroom to flicker slightly. You gaze out into the dark of the tunnel you've unearthed, seeing a faint light around a low bend ahead of you.

You hear a slight clink behind you, almost like windchimes.

The issue is going to be if he will be on when he eventually finds it, he is on right now but he is busy building, I think I am goign to leave it for a week, then.. switch the mines again!

Sounds like you're rolling Herobrine style. You should've left some weird things out of place in your replica mines to fuck with him.

I am actually worried i did too good of a job, I replicated everything I could, he isnt the wiser... but I am sure it will be worth it.

has he found out yet?
