[Vent] Anxieties as an adult
DAE still have anxiety when they make a (minor) mistake because you think of what their parents would say?
Like I started a new job a few weeks ago, so I was buying a new life insurance plan through my employer. I made the mistake of opting, on impulse, into their rider for accidental death and dismemberment insurance an extra $5.50 per month (which is relatively little compared to what I make in a pay period), before I realized I might have wasted my money (I know dad said that those sorts of policies were a waste of money especially since I'd already have term life insurance).
I shit you not, I freaked out when I was home alone (I live on my own, my parents sometimes visit, but they've kinda mellowed out now that I live hundreds of miles away). Like I think my AP dad (from the past) was in my head or something. I even called my folks to apologize, and they honestly seemed to be more like "WTF, why are you freaking out like you just robbed a bank, IRV? It's only $72 a year. That's fine, it's your life, you're a grown man with a professional job, you figure it out." I think even now, when I have my own life, my own relationships independent of whether mom and dad like her or not, my own job, my own freaking place, and so on, I feel as if I'm still five years old.
Like I got even more AP-like than my actual frakking APs nowadays, like I'm freaking out about my own relatively minor mistakes like it's the end of the world.

When your parents treat you like this for years, your brain fills in for them when they aren't there.
I mean, it's just weird. I deal with cases involving much more pressure with a lot more money, but I freaked out about something that basically costs per month the cost of Starbucks?
Yeah. Because you know your parents would be screaming about the tiny thing

Hell if I know buddy, you're in the same position as me and the parents. Catholic guilt?
