Come on Boris get in the ditch

Is that not already law though, or is this one a modified version of that?

2
OverunderscoreOP•

Technically no. If the house agrees to the deal today, an extension doesn’t need to be sought.

This amendment postpones deciding on the deal until the necessary legislation has also been passed. This prevents the deal being agreed, no extension being sought and then the necessary legislation not being passed through the commons resulting in us effectively leaving with no deal on the 31st

Well looks like the Letwin amendment will pass and there is not enough support for the deal, so it will be we want more time and not this deal

2
OverunderscoreOP•

And pass it has by 16 votes

shrewdmingerbuttRuncorn•

Ah okay, thank you for the explanation! I’m in a restaurant at the moment so can’t really watch the proceedings.

1
Lolkac•

can anyone explain the letwin amendment? BBC has flowchart that if it passes there will be another vote on brexit with deal. Do they mean that the same deal Boris has will be passed but not in october but january? Or it means that PM will again has to get new deal and there will be the same bickering in January?

1
OverunderscoreOP•

It means that parliament will sort out the necessary legislation, before passing the deal. As it stands, parliament could agree the deal today but not get the other necessary legislation through the house in time for the 31st

"A further delay would be bad for democracy."

But they've just voted on that and that was the democratic decision! Which he apparently is going to just ignore.

"Any decision that goes against me is bad for democracy." cries the man who has acted rather dictatorially since taking office.

Well that’s rude!

Torys storming off in a huff!

“You’re mean! I’m taking my ball and going home!”

1

Who are all these people standing around? Are they MPs who don't have seats?

2
OverunderscoreOP•

Yeah there aren’t enough seats for all MPs

3
stordoffYorkshire•

The House of Commons has a seating capacity of about 427; there are 650 MPs (though 7 Sinn Féin members don't sit).

1
Veldron•

Ayes won it

2
CheCheDaWaff•

Well I must say that was a surprising turn of events.

2
Nesser30Berkshire•

All i see is MPs not trusting Boris or the government

1
chris-colour•

Has Boris won a vote yet at all?

1
Nesser30Berkshire•

I think one

1
Lucifa42Oxfordshire•

Is that the one where he got the most votes but technically lost as he needed 2/3rds?

3
chris-colour•

Ah ok. I thought he was on a Vardy-esque streak.

I’m so fucking confused 🤷‍♂️

Much like a toddler you don't know what he's going to do until he does it. Nothing he says has any value.

2
OverunderscoreOP•

Yeah not sure about him saying he won’t ask for a delay but this vote doesn’t technically reject the deal.

This vote seeks to get the other legislation necessary passed before agreeing to the deal so unless something drastic happens, another vote on this deal is expected.

1
Lolkac•

but the deal was not passed and he has not enough support to pass it

1
OverunderscoreOP•

That’s an issue for the future.

Johnson must now seek an extension because a deal hasn’t been agreed before the 20th as per the Benn act.

If he wishes to bring the deal back to parliament (it hasn’t been voted on yet so he can) he must first push through the other associated legislation.

This guy fails time and time again, then reiterates how he will break the law come October the 31st. It's time for the EU to pile the pressure on the UK, either grant an extension for 2 years with a proviso for having another referendum, or we revoke article 50 before the 31st and have a GE.
