[CIP] HOFi^Yred, 2 runes obtained
After failing with several magic users, I switched to more durable melee builds. This one looks promising - I found Four Winds in the Lair (incidentally, my last most successful attempt at this build also found Four Winds in Lair), cleared Shoals and Snake Pit and received 3 bone dragons from Yredelemnul. I'm a bit concerned about my supply of healing potions - didn't find many on this run, and I'm down to 3 heal wounds/curing. Thinking of doing Elven Halls or Vaults up to level 4 next - a bit worried about Vaults, since my last most successful Yredelemnul fighter lost several minions to the deep trolls with Rapid Deconstruction.
Is the vampiric brand on my battleaxe a good one, or should I pick another one (I have electrocution or freezing lying around)? Should I wait for an executioner's axe to drop, or am I better off enchanting one of battleaxes?
Also, how bad is *Slow? I found randart +2 gloves with +2 slaying and regeneration, but they also give *Slow.
EDIT: Well, this one's dead. Got abyssed by a distortion weapon and ran into a hellion spamming damnation. https://pastebin.com/nTseQUwL

Hi. Blind speaking to blind here (I have a mere three wins under my belt, all with Minotaurs; with other species I am failing miserably) but here are my 2c.
Your resistances are a bit on a lower side. I would look for RF / RC to up them to at least one pip each, two preferably.
Invest more in XP in dodging even though your apt is quite terrible.
Chain mail--really? That +3 is sweet but no plate armor laying around somewhere in the dungeon? Also, make use of these ?EnchantArmor. Escaping with them grants no benefit.
You are going to use that vamp axe (that is fine, brand is fine, and damage is more than enough to carry through the game). If so--it is not going to enchant itself alone (8 ?EnchWeapon, really?)
3 !Healing/Curing is a lot. They are your emergency buttons not lunch-break consumables.
Otherwise, good luck.
I have RF/RC rings, but one of my current rings has +6 Str, and other gives RPois and +2 slaying (How valuable will be RPois at this point? Elven Halls probably will be safe, but I recall Vaults having hornets). My source of RF is my chain mail, it's being negated by the RPois randart (which is based on ring of ice). I'm more concerned about complete lack of RElec - Vaults have storm dragons, Zot has electric golems. I did defeat Nikola, but I encountered him a hallway where I could drink a haste potion and quickly close on him without getting hit by too many lightning bolts.
How far will Dodging get me at this point? I'm concerned about how much Dex it'll require to have a noticeable effect - I invested all points in Str, and my Dex is sitting at 101.
My chain mail gives resist fire, the only plate mail I found isn't an ego item. There are two un-ID'd randart scale mails lying around (one is in a shop, other is guarded by a player ghost), but those are weaker than chain.
Vamp it is then. I'll have enough leftover scrolls to enchant a new weapon if one happens to drop.
There comes a point where, bad apt or no, it is just much cheaper to get a point of EV from Dodging than a point of AC (or SH). AC and EV aren't exactly as valuable as each other, but it's a reasonable rule of thumb.
It might want wizmode testing to determine exactly when Dodging stops being the cheap option - but with 18.5 Armour and no Dodging, it definitely is the cheap option now.
