As a beginner player, should I commit to a deck with Oko and Nissa?

Question

I hear the deck is quite powerful, and I'd like to spend the wildcards I've been hoarding for months, but is there a high chance of Oko or Nissa getting banned from Standard anytime soon? If I end up committing my wildcards to a full Simic Ramp deck, will the potential banning of Oko and Nissa mean I'd have wasted all my wildcards for nothing?

Craft Okos and then decide what Oko deck you want to play for Okotoberfest.

Fotd got banned, and they were replaced by wildcards.

Craft whatever you think would be fun to play.

Well if Field of the Dead tells us anything, if one of those cards gets banned and you spent wildcards on it, you'll probably get the wildcards back. That said, build whatever is the most fun for you. If you're the spike type who just enjoys playing whatever is strongest, then by all means play Oko/Nissa, but also realize there's no such thing as a free win an lots of people are crafting decks specifically to beat Oko.

No need to spend the wildcards to get the refund. I had 2 fotd from packs and crafted 2. Got 4 wc for it.

If you make a simic food deck you will be compensated with 4 WCs for when Oko will get banned. The real good news is the deck will still be one of the best decks in the meta. So it is a very safe craft. Go ahead and craft it if you like it, but beware, the many mirrors will not be fun and you may regret using your wcs this standard. So spend your WCs wisely.

The entire Green core is absurdly strong. If Nissa and Oko are banned, the deck will still be playable.

at least a chance higher than every other card in standard

will the potential banning of Oko and Nissa mean I'd have wasted all my wildcards for nothing?

simic ramp was solid before ELD, it was more focused on [[hydroid krasis]] [[mass manipulation]] [[agent of treachery]] . so there is a good chance it will remain good if only oko is banned.

In the end, I highly recommend against crafting a deck you don't actually like, everybody will feel good winning but when you lose on a deck you don't even enjoy it will feel like shit.

I had trouble in bo1 today playing a Bant food deck. People are very tuned against Oko. Don't let that stop you if it looks fun to play (it is) but out won't be easy and you may end up wanting Sultai food to beat the other Oko decks...

Oko should be banned but it is up in the air if that will happen personally I suspect they will do a half measure answer and ban something like Goose/Nissa or Goose/OUAT since Oko is the chase card and one mana dorks are an easy ban target. You will for sure get your wildcards back since they refunded for FOTD and Nexus in the past I don't see them changing their policy in the future, however that being said the Simic ramp shell is extremely unfun to play IMO and it has one of the most frustrating mirror MU's ive played in some time where almost every-game is decided on who sticks the first walker.

I've been trying to think of how they could get away without banning Oko because honestly two bans in a row looks really bad on WotC's part. Maybe just try to let it ride until the next set with added early planeswalker hate like Angrath's Rampage, or print MORE busted cards in other colors? If they go with more busted planeswalkers that just makes a super friends deck the new meta so IDK.

I think the issue is in part if they just print more busted walkers than control gets even weaker as a deck and aggro becomes more of a non-factor and everyone is just playing some version of super-friends mid-range. Personally I think that will end up killing a huge amount of the player base off with lack of diversity.

It honestly looks kinda like those are the directions they have been pushing the game with the recent sets and walkers like Narset, Teferi, and Oko are just busted and shut down avenues of play for so little commitment.

It also might make sense for them to print some answers in enchantment form because Oko doesn't interact with them and Theros is enchantment city.

It could have been that is what is planned but for right now it isn't really much of a factor since the meta is a full on clown fiesta with mainboard veil , gust and grasps running around.

In general though it would be nice to see enchants get some love again would really like to see something like O-ring get a reprint.

I have full set of Nissa from packs, full set of once upon a time & two hydroid krasis.

I will be crafting Oko tonight (since we will get refunded based on FOTD's ban).

Well since you cannot beat Oko, join Oko.

Yes. If Oko gets banned, you get refunded Wildcards. Nissa and Oko are both good without the other, as are their enablers like Goose.

When Oko gets banned, you'll get your 4 Mythic Wildcards back, and the core of Goose / Once Upon a Time / Nissa / Wolf will still be excellent (but hopefully not broken).

So yes, if you like playing green (or winning) then go for it.

It is very unlikely they get banned. Try to go for it only when you have enough wildcards to make a very decent deck with them.
