Guru vs Altergeist

Discussion

I'm torn between what one I should play. Altergeist seems to fare better when forced second but Guru just closes out games so much easier I find, plus in the current meta they can play TCBOO which is a total blow out. On the other hand Geist can play secret village and shit all over striker :c All in all I've figured that both decks can play the same skeleton:

3x Solemn Strike

3x Solemn Judgement

1x Solemn Warning

3x Pot of Extravagance

2x Pot of Duality

3x Ash

3x Imperm

3x Compulse/Crackdown

What deck is the better option in the current meta?

Crackdown is much better in Guru in my opinion. Both are good decks

I prefer Geist, but to be fair I've never played guru before. It's a control deck that's on my list to play. I've only really played draco, geist, striker and boarder stun.

While I'm not an expert in either I think I like Altergiests a bit more. Even when it has the lockdown Guru still takes a while to finish things off. Geist on the other hand once it starts making double Hexstia pretty much seals the deal and aren't too bad at finishing things off with how surprisingly big the Hexstias can get.

How do the hexstias get big if they can only point to 1 monster?

Well a Hexstia pointing to a Marionetter is 3100 ATK and one pointing to another is 3000. Sure it's not the biggest thing out there but since control decks aren't known for their OTK potential I think it's surprisingly noteworthy.

I prefer Geists(no bias here heuheuhe)

Guru is a fun deck but feels like a worse prison deck than TD.

Meluseek just outs so much it's the best card in the deck, protocol just says git got and silq bouncing anything that can be targeted is nuts.

Also hexstia can get bighuge

I've always found Altergeist to be better at what it does. It just has more options than Guru, with both Meluseek and Silquitous to apply pressure and gain advantage. Also, it's easier to actually get bodies on the field and finish them off with Hexstia or Borrelsword, while Guru struggles to put out damage outside of Final Battle's third effect.

One of the things that people are forgetting here is that while both decks are good (and I play altergeists IRL), a big advantage guru has over altergeists is that the deck is much harder to follow along and can afford to be a lot less linear. While this might sound like a negative, it's extremely advantageous that your opponent doesn't know how your deck operates. If they don't know what to handtrap/negate, etc., what do they do? Just throw darts and hope they hit the right card?

They're somewhat similar in price and performance, so it's honestly up to preference; just pick what you like more and/or think is a better investment!

Altergeist can spot removal boards with meluseek and are a little more consistent from my experiences. Altergeist also has access to Secret Village of the Spellcasters. However if the 1 multifaker somehow gets banished out of the game or prevented then this deck wont have a very good time.

Subterror can play the best floodgate in the game very easily (There can be only one) and Subterror can play more hand traps/tech cards. Subterror is slower though and can get blown out by very fast decks.

Its preference in my opinion. Altergeist has had more success but i feel like Subterror is just more skillful and harder to play.

Imo they're both extremely fun to play and it's hard to choose wrong here. But I'd say Geist might be better
