One of the most helpful resources on skin, faces, hair, and eyes I've found

On a shopping trip to my local Hobby store I came across this book: Color Mixing Recipes for Portraits: More than 500 Color Combinations for Skin, Eyes, Lips & Hair

Originally I picked it up for the skin tones, however it covers color theory, highlight, shade and base colors for hair and even has maps on how / where to paint the shadows and highlights.

I enjoy painting busts but have never been able to get faces or skin tones right. Almost all of the busts I've painted end up being stripped and repainted several times and end up with very basic face detailing.

Anyway just wanted to share. For $10 its definitely worth its weight in resin even for the seasoned painter.

It covers a global range of skin tones? Southeast Asians, African, Native Americans?

According to some of the reviews, the selection of skin tones for non-Caucasian peoples are rather limited, but there are some.

I'd also like to know this - it would be cool to be able to do other skin tones without looking like a racist stereotype

it does, as SheIsAurorable mentioned if is rather limited. But each mix / palette consists of 13 different shades + highlights so I figure just shift the palette to the darker side of the mixes
