Hi Sliger, thanks for all the help so far in fielding build questions for the SM560.

I was finally able to post, but I'm getting weird CPU temp readings in the BIOS.

On Friday, I was peaking at 65 degrees Celcius in the BIOS, that seemed weird but I thought it was due to my case fans. At the time I was using the all-rounder, Noctua NF-A12x25. I presumed there wasn't enough static pressure for the semi-passive build, so I went out and bought the Noctua Chromax NF-F12s.

Now I'm getting 75 degrees in the BIOS, and the temperature continues to rise into the 80s before I shut off the PC in fear.

I'm thinking I might need to reseat the cooler but there's no way for me to know if that's the problem, but is there any other troubleshooting advice I should look at? It's been kind of frustrating having to take apart the whole PC every time I need to troubleshoot or replace something like the fans, but I guess that's part of building a SFFPC.

I have an Asus B450-I MOBO and Ryzen 3700x. I'm using the Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP heatsink.

What orientation are your fans in, Intake or exhaust?

I believe they are intake. The fan grill is at the top, so the air should be moving up.

Got it. That is intake, which is what you want!

You may want to try and re-seat the cooler.

You're pretty close to the limit (if not over) of that cooler with a 3700x. I'm not sure there's a whole lot more you can do.

Since the temperatures increased after replacing my fans, my fingers are crossed it's a thermal paste / contact thing.

I really hope I can get this cooler to work with the CPU.

Looks like your power supply is mounted backwards? I haven't used that cooler, but it looks awesome, with the blade orientation. For some reason, all the gurus over in r/sffpc say to run the bottom fans in exhaust.

Fans in exhaust configuration applies to vented panels. For the semi passive, unvented or window panels with intake fans are recommended

I can now confirm, fans in exhaust WITH both windowed side panels, is better for cooling, by at least 3.0 Celsius. I do not believe fans should EVER be used in intake configuration.

But ... How? My mind is blown right now

My guess is that the fans just don't have enough room to move air, in intake mode. As compared to exhaust mode ,they are just pulling all the air they can and have plenty of room to push that air out, below the chassis.

Now, ask me which mode I prefer, and I'd say intake. I much prefer the hot air exhaust out the top of the chassis, than hitting the desk and blowing right across my hands on the keyboard. But, for performance, exhaust is the way to go.

Now I'm replacing the Black Ridge with the Asetek 645LT and we'll see if one fan in exhaust/intake has the same result.

Turns out, even Sliger thinks exhaust is the only way to go.
