Subreddit Splatfest #2 - Mod Requests!
Do you want to become a mod for this subreddit??
A few months ago, I introduced our first Subreddit Splatfest, where we all pitched in to source the artwork from the KnowYourMeme gallery on Rule 34.10.008, or Inklingification, and post them here!
As of recently, activity's largely stalled since the majority of the KYM gallery has been posted. This comes in addition to a period of stagnancy on this subreddit.
However, resurrecting the sub can't be done by one squiddo alone. It will take a group of devoted posters, and you can join in too!
So, without further ado, allow me to introduce our 2nd Subreddit Splatfest, where the winners can become community moderators and shape this subreddit by themselves!
#The Contest
- If you're interested in becoming a mod, comment below with your username and a brief explanation on your relation to this subreddit and how you plan to contribute as a mod.
Once I've seen your comment, I'll signal your entry into the contest with the custom flair Mod Candidate, which means you're ready to get to the grit of the contest.
-
For the next 4 weeks, you have to find and submit 2 pieces of artworkper week, with source. Once you've completed that, you can join our mod team! -
But here's the cache: all your posts have to fall within the rules. More specifically, I'll be enforcing the rules a bit more tightly than usual for your posts—in particular Rules 2, 4, and 6.
Rule 2: Posts should have decent artistic quality—i.e. if it looks like something the average kid can draw, it's probably not good content.
Rule 4: Posts should directly link to the webpage of the artist. A full guide can be found here. If it isn't properly sourced, your post will be removed, no exceptions!
Rule 6: Flairs should be relevant to what content is being shown in the post. If your post gets removed for this, however, you can just resubmit with the right flair and it'll be fine.
I know that I haven't enforced these rules as much before, partly because I wanted to keep it inclusive while growing. However, future mods need to set an example for the rest of the userbase to encourage quality and integrity in posts, and there's no better way to do that than by creating your own high-quality posts.
-
Rule 5 changes: the repost ban threshold for contestants is extended to 6 months between reposts. This is to encourage exploration to find fresh artwork to submit!
-
Don't repost other contestants' posts—not only is it an annoyance to nonparticipating users, it's also cheap and shows you didn't want to put in the effort.
-
You can only submit up to 1 Meme post out of the 8-post total.
-
You can only submit up to 1 Question or Request post out of the 8-post total. -
If you go beyond the requirements, like x-posting to r/Splatoon and the respective fandom's subreddit, you gain bonus points in the contest and bonus appreciation from yours truly!
Now, I would like to invite everyone who's reading this to join the team. But that won't guarantee high-quality moderation and content curation, essential to successful niche subreddits like ours. Plus, too many cooks can spoil the pot!
I designed this contest to check that our mod applicants have the passion and commitment needed to grow a subreddit, willing to take the time to find high-quality posts and scrounge for their proper sources—that amount of devotion makes a good mod!
If you want to become and applicant, follow the first step and leave me a reply below this post. If you have any questions or concerns—or just want a tl;dr—feel free to let me know also!
Cheers, u/d_shadowspectre3
