The Robin Hood Theory

I've just had a hypothetical 'good idea, bad idea'.

You grow cannabis on a farm in good steady quantity, whether you own the farm or a farmer helps is up to you. You use 100% of the profit to anonymously give to charities, community centres, Garda, playground updates, surprise Santa, whatever you can think of.

When you get busted how would you be judged in trail for A) Blatantly selling cannabis yet, B) Gave 100% to the communities in desperate need?

If this ever happens in real life, I'll fight a bear in public.

All those charities would have to give the money back if it was gained illegally. So you might even end up fucking over way more people than intended. Good idea though.

Now if you were paying the taxman anonymously, you might get away with it

They may not. There’s a legal concept known as the law of restitution (it applies where for example a bank accidentally deposits €1m in your account, which you decide to give to charity. The courts will apply the law of restitution and actually block the bank recovering the monies). A similar approach could prima facie be taken with proceeds of crime in such a case, but there is very little case law in this jurisdiction on the issue.

Ah okay, I see that happening now. The taxman though, I'd on board with that. It would be the saltiest project ever but I would still be very interested in just how far you could push the 'legalities' of the situation.

This is the worst idea I have ever heard

Well when you think about it charity's still have to pay workers and if your out collecting it's usually commission based I did an interview years ago for a door to door job not realising it was to get people to sign up to donate to world wildlife fund and the likes ... Frig that ... Isn't there a fella in England gives out medicinal oil and doesn't charge for it if they can't afford it or something
