To celebrate its 110 years of fine craftsmanship, Montblanc released a limited edition of three timepieces; the Montblanc Collection Villeret Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique 110 Years Anniversary Limited Edition
The watch feature:
- A detached One-minute tourbillon that revolves in a case of its own, making a full rotation of its axis every 60 seconds.
- Double cylindrical balance spring
- Maison’s Heures Mystérieuses “Floating” Hour and Second hands
Craftsmanship wise; the timepiece also feature a three-dimensional, hand-engraved, anthracite serpent; Inspired from the Maison’s first fountain pen “Rouge et Noir” series line. The 95 components making up the Tourbillion are also hand-bevelled, chamfered, angled, polished and decorated in-house by Montblanc’s master craftsmen

Holy shit. It's hard to choose what's the most impressive. The snake, the mistery hands...
But it has to be the shape of that tourbillon bridge. That's insane.

As awesome as the (all hand beveled/finished) tourbillon is, and the (all hand made) snake, those floating sapphire hands with exposed gear drives are something special in my book.
I can't think of another watch that exposes the drive, and the depth/layering it adds to the dial is just incredible.

That is actually stunning. Normally the snake would be off-putting. I think it looks so well done, it's incredibly cool. Very subtle as well. Like, no one will notice that.

Did they print the hour and minute marker on two glass crystals? Can't think of another way to do that.

So I went to the release event with Hodinkee of this watch in NYC. It's a real monster and wears huge on the wrist. Super neat and an insane piece. PM me if you want another photo or two (although this one is MUCH better).

I know it’s stupid, but somehow the fact that it’s a Montblanc watch for 290k makes it feel even more absurd
I dunno Ralph Lauren had possibly the ugliest tourbillon I've ever seen for 65k irric. At least this watch is interesting and has a sneak on it
I definitely think the watch is pretty. Maybe I didn’t phrase my statement well - I meant that if this was a Patek or something, I wouldn’t bat an eye at the price. But because it’s a Montblanc I’m completely galled by the price - really says something about how susceptible I am personally to marketing.

Since Montblanc bought Minerva & everyone from JLC came over, it has started to establish itself as a serious watchmaker.
Yeah I’m aware of this. I’m saying this purely as a self-critique of how much I’ve bought into the marketing of other brands.
