Diablo 2 - I have no idea how to trade
I mean, I know how to click on someone and start a trade, but I have absolutely zero idea on what constitutes a fair price for anything. Like I want to get an arachnid mesh belt, which the internet tells me shouldn’t be too terribly expensive. But what even is expensive? I presume my noob treasury measures by a different stick for now.
So, is there a resource for estimating prices of things? I’m on Ladder US east, by the way.

D2 trading is not a supermarket with prices next to items. It's a bazaar. You need to compare prices from different sellers and you need to haggle or you will pay too high of a price.
I understand that much, but having no starting point at all to work with on what anything is worth in relation to anything else makes that difficult to get started on :/
I can understand that, and I would be able to help you out if you asked me 10 years ago, but the game is so oversaturated with bots that the prices are probably super scuffed now. Plus it's the end of ladder so I really don't know. Typically random % arach can go for a few mid runes / a low high rune or something I guess? but again the prices depends on the seller, and what you have that he needs. Best thing is to show what you have and see if he needs something.
Rarity and rolls determine the worth as well, if it's a shit roll arach you can argue it's not worth too much, vice versa. Similarly, a 141 shako is worth like 5 times that of a 138 shako. It's literally supply and demand determined trading per person. How much you need the item is also on you, so overpaying for stuff because you really want it is part of trading.
Alright, thanks!
The only reason you even LOOK at the defense of a shako is because they are so common... it really doesnt matter, because like you said all the bots mess up prices
I think OP is wondering about the actual INTRINSIC value of items in relation to eachother - rarity of course factored in - to come up with reasons why a Shako may have similar value to an arach for example. Not why the ED% roll on an arach is worth more to an OCD botter who has hundreds of duped High Runes and wants his items to be "perfect" when rolls like that mean absolutely nothing. (Of course rolls on some items like a griffons +dmg/-res are still crucial to the item's value)
communication is your starting point. You ask what they want for it.
