Christmas gift ideas for a new collector

Hi guys,

I know very very little about the Pokemon TCG. I played a bit of MTG wayyyy back in the day and sometimes I watch MTG community videos, so I know there are some bad products out there in terms of gift packs and such.

My adult niece recently started collecting Pokemon TCG cards. She doesn't play at all, which nixes my idea of getting her a playmat and some other accessories. I need Christmas present ideas for her. I don't think she has a very large collection at the moment, but I'd like it to be something special around $60 USD.

Any suggestions?

I know if I was her I’d love a Hidden Fates Premium Collection box. It comes with 15 packs, a statue, and a playmat. Plus 3 promo cards.

It’s a bit pricey at 100 dollars but it’s a real nice box.

Alternatively you could also get her a tin or a Hidden Fates Pokeball box.

I should have specified prices! I'm looking to spend $80 Canadian or so.

Seems like the mark up on Amazon.ca is really high! Amazon.com has the pokeballs for $70 US but they are $129.99 in Canada.

Check target and Best Buy for the ball collections. They are $40 us right now, a little cheaper on Best Buy. Everything from Best Buy is on sale.

Edit:looks like the Best Buy sale is over, must have just been this weekend. Target should still have them for $40.

Unfortunately Target set up shop and then pulled out of Canada in just a couple of years, and BestBuy Canada doesn't seem to stock Pokemon TCG related stuff, but thank you.

Do you know what her favorite pokemon is? Could get her a nice vintage card off eBay.

Apparently it's Gardevor, Celebi, or Mew. Any suggestions?

Hidden fates shiny Gardevoir GX card is less than $20 on TCGplayer. Looks gorgeous and highly collectible.

Ancient Mew is a more vintage card, also affordable under $20 for the “Pokémon movie 2000 ancient Mew”.

A Celebi & Venusaur Tin so she can open some packs should be about $20

These 3 things would make a well thought out gift IMO, wouldn’t be too difficult for you to get ahold of, and fall under your price range. I may be a bit off I’m in the US not Canada.

Thanks! The Hidden Fates Gardevoir is apparently not available for shipping to Canada but I will keep my eyes open.

If you can't find a shiny gardevoir, a good alternative would be the gardevoir and Sylveon tag team gx alternate art card (set number 205/214 in Unbroken Bonds), the artwork of that card is amazing.
