Why are Bill and Melinda Gates sleeping on Yang?

I watched the Bill Gates documentary on Netflix. As much as I suspect that the content served to soften Bill's public image, the projects the film highlighted (notably next-gen nuclear) and general logic-loving nature that was on display makes it seem like Bill and Yang are birds of a feather.

Why on Earth would Bill and Melinda be sleeping on a candidate like this?

Because money

It's one thing to use your money to encourage an unopinionated candidate to do what you want. It's another thing to boost a candidate that already sees things your way.

To be fair, even tho Gates is no longer the CEO of Microsoft, he's still the face of the company and a major share holder. I can see the board and big shareholders not wanting him to endorse any candidate.

I also read somewhere that it was the same reason why Elon stayed quiet after that one tweet about him supporting Yang.

That's a good thought.

This is the reason in my mind

Pretty sure I heard somewhere that Gates backs Booker. That's what I heard at least.

If yang wins the gates will be much more heavily taxed which is why he doesnt want yang to win

"the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist whose fortune totals over $100 billion, said that he had paid over $10 billion in taxes and that it would be “fine” if he had to pay $20 billion.

“But, you know, when you say I should pay $100 billion, O.K., then I’m starting to do a little math about what I have left over,” he added"

The vat would end up costing him more than 10 billion in the long run

I thought Melinda was making a run for the White House now or later. I think there are too many billionaires this cycle, and she is young, so will try later.

As much as they like to do philanthropy....and they also dont need any help to do their philanthropy...but on the other hand ...their business interests need help from government laying the rules...so most often billionaires, they support in some form to the candidate ..who they think their business will be good.

News probably have not reached them yet, or maybe none profit organization like theirs are refrained from political meddling. Good or bad.

People involved in charity are limited in their ability to actively endorse political candidates, lest they lose their tax exempt status. This came up with MLK's son. It might be in play with Bill and Melinda, too.

I honestly wish Yang would plug Gates' work on nuclear power that uses depleted uranium: the waste from our current crop of nuclear facilities. He he can easily mention this in addition to thorium.

It would be an excellent retort to an opponent. I like the bit about how the waste we have on hand today could power the US for 100 years. 100 years with no new waste and zero emissions. End of argument.

Gates does a bit of work lobbying the government on climate change, and theres his connection to Microsoft that could be seen as a conflict of interest. He wants to stay away from endorsing politicians, although I can see him working well with Yang.
