12/30 always feels a little loaded
To me, 12/30 feels like the sweet spot of the annual NYE run. The band has had a couple of nights to get warmed up, but without the pressure of playing three sets and doing the NYE gag and everything else that goes along with the big night. The last several 12/30 shows have stolen their respective runs and just been incredible shows in their own right. 12/30/2016 had heavyweight Tweezer, Ghost, and Light jams with the last slipping like butter into a surprise Party Time. 12/30/2017 had that enormous Disease followed by the true highlight which was the deep deep space jam out of Steam. 12/30/2018's Everything's Right>Plasma>Light put it squarely on par with the amazing show the night before, but the Melt that ends the second set pushes it over the edge. Looking back a little further, there's 12/30/1997 which is one of the greatest and most historic shows in the band's history.
I guess my point in all of this is buckle up, tonight's gonna be a wild ride!

They are going to tear this place to the ground tonight. I just know it. They did it last night and they’ll do it again and I’ll be there to watch it. This is Phish’s town right now. Don’t worry. We are in good hands.
