What if..

This thread got me thinking. What if the Q and the Borg are one and the same? The Q are the Borg after they've attained perfection. There are many similarities:

  • Both are obsessed with Picard

  • Guinan hates both

  • Both like to interfere in the affairs of other species

  • Neither one reproduces naturally

  • There's very strong social influence at work in both species. The individual takes a back seat to the collective good.

I know what you're thinking. If the Q are Borg then why are there still Borg? My answer to this is that you're thinking too linearly. Time and space are no barrier to the Q. The Borg and Q are the same species at vastly different stages of their evolution and they exist at the same time!

That theory is about as weak as Worf in any hand to hand combat.

This is not a convincing hypothesis

Yea those same points could be used to argue that ants and bees are the same. Its generalities being used toward a conclusion. While I like fan theories, this one is pretty thin.

I like the Borg as a mysterious force of nature and I dont know that we will ever get (nor do we need) their full back story to enjoy their story lines.

I think the Borg are the result of some civilization hundreds of thousands of years old eventually dying out due to some unforseen tragedy and the last few members in desperation uploading their brains/consciousness into computers and then in the intervening centuries warping to believe that the "marriage of organic and technology" was the closest thing to perfection possible. Perhaps then as life sprung anew on their home planet, they forcibly assimilated that life, and co-opted it, built starships, and began their assimilating ways.

Just no

I’m not seeing it. The Q are highly individualistic.
