HDD to SSD change and NMS save games

Question

Hello fellow travellers.

I hope to decrease warp/teleport times and improve terrain building by replacing the PS4 Pro Standard 1 TB HDD with a new and fast 1 TB SSD. It seems that I can´t backup the whole HDD (= game+save files) and put it on SSD afterwards - just backup save files to USB etc. Afterwards I´ve to reinstall the game and restore the save files from the USB stick.

Is this working fine? Did someone try it who knows something about possible flaws and issues?

I´m a bit afraid of loosing my 200h save status...

Thank you in advance

UPDATE: Everything worked fine - but unfortunately the speed has not increased anywhere worth mentioning (warping, loading, terrain)

Do you have PS Plus? If yes, you got your save game in the cloud and you can basically just reinstall and download the savegame.

Unfortunately no - but thank you

You can get PS+ reasonably cheaply for 1 month. I assume the online storage is available in that, but you'd need to check. Might make things a little easier.

May be I´ll try that - thanks again

Good luck. Been meaning to try it myself, when I can justify the SDD price.

Just copy all your save games to a USB stick. Then restore them after the drive swap. Done.

Thank you - but if that doesn't work, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to cuss you out ... 200 h ;-)

Dude, it's basic functionality. Don't worry. And... you should be regularly copying your NMS save game to a USB stick anyway. Especially right before a major patch comes out. I'm at 1500+ hours on my save. And I copy it to a USB stick every night when I close NMS. I've also swapped my HDD with an SSD in my PS4 Pro. Still playing.

...ahhh good idea ... I always have a bad feeling by having just 1 save file. Thanks a lot

Backup your saves also to the cloud or another usb stick, just in case.

Yes, backing and restoring saves to USB works. I've done this when they released buggy updates and fear of save corruption was real.

You can also back saves up to the cloud if you have PS+

Thanks - you make me even more afraid of a corrupted save file now ...

Lol, I still have my original save since 2016. The chances of corruption were much higher after Next released in 2018, but I think the chances of corruption are much less now, at least I don't see users complaining about it anymore :)

Wow 2016 ... so probably only a few days/weeks after the Big Bang ;-)
