Coming off subs - comfort meds to ask for from primary care?
I am about to stop taking subs in a few days. Currently on 2 mg per day. Have been on for ~ 2.5 years. I am heading to primate care on Monday to ask for meds which will ease the process (sleeping, discomfort). The ones I'm asking for now are ones that I learned about when in detox and inpatient treatment for opioids. Here they are: Flexeril, Clonidine. The two over the counter ones I'll buy are Benadryl and melatonin.
Any other suggestions (OTC or prescribed)? Thanks.

2mg is a high dose to be jumping off of. Also, I recommend staying away from Benedryl as it can make RLS much worse if that is one of the symtoms you encounter. The comfort meds I find most useful are Clonidine and Gabapentin. Clonidine helps with anxiety, sleep, and temperature fluctuations. Gabapentin helps with most symptoms but especially RLS, anxiety, and sleep.
Yea it is high but I am motivated to stop now. I have experienced that with Benadryl in the distant past but not recently. I was thinking about asking for gabapentin.
I have read a few posts about the vitamin C thing on here, so idk I night try that too.
Do u know why benedryl does that w rls? Its freaking terrible. If i take benedryl for more than like a week i get rls so bad. Bizarre
Yeah it makes my RLS x100 worse which us a nightmare when you're trying to sleep.
Apparently the reason for this is not very understood. According to William Ondo, M.D., "We don't yet understand why sedating antihistamines worsen restless legs syndrome, but we do know that non-sedating antihistamines do not affect the symptoms as much because they do not enter the brain as easily," Ondo said. "It's very frustrating for my patients when a sleeping pill like a sedating antihistamine doesn't help them sleep, so I advise them to seek other allergy relief options, such as nasal sprays and decongestants."
I second your advice about benadryl! It will make rls SO much worse! Use melatonin, OP. And I also agree 2 mg is at least 8 times too high a dose to jump from.
Well I'm gonna give it a week or 2 and if it's unbearable then I will adjust and continue tapering.
Ok, good luck. Please don't push yourself too hard and end up relapsing; sub is always better than dope.
Yea I won't. Thanks. Will keep the sub posted and I really want to be clean and done with subs.
