Gender dysphoria is necessary is to be trans
Gender dysphoria is necessary is to be trans; people without it are, by definition, cis (whether they're gender non-conforming or not). To be diagnosed with gender dysphoria (for adults, the criteria is different for children), an individual must experience at least two of the following symptoms for a period of at least six months.
- A marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and primary and/or secondary sex characteristics
- A strong desire to be rid of one’s primary and/or secondary sex characteristics
- A strong desire for the primary and/or secondary sex characteristics of the other gender
- A strong desire to be of the other gender
- A strong desire to be treated as the other gender
- A strong conviction that one has the typical feelings and reactions of the other gender
In addition to this, the individual must experience clinically significant distress, which is a vaguely defined medical term most commonly used in a similar manner to "clinically observable symptoms". More simply: if you are distressed enough to transition, it is clinically significant/observable.
"I don't have dysphoria, I pass as my assigned gender and I'm not even on hormones, but I call myself trans so I am trans tee hee!" is something that only a trender would say. Miss me with that shit.
