Planning a trip in May/June

Hey r/askTO, I am planning a trip to Toronto for a friend's birthday and wanted some recommendations and suggestions. We have never been and I am not sure where to stay/eat/drink. For reference, we love going to Chicago and stay in River North and hang out there while venturing up to Lincoln Park area on occasion. We like to stay at hotels that are reasonably priced but in great locations since we want to walk most places.

We are adventurous eaters and drinkers so no suggestion is really too outrageous for us. We love craft cocktails (birthday guy is a huge Negroni fan) and good breweries/distilleries. We'd love to find some cool/unique places but also would love some suggestions on areas to go to where we can hop around and grab drinks.

Also, does anyone have a good suggestion on getting into Toronto? We will be driving from Detroit area but may have multiple cars and parking I imagine can get expensive at hotels/downtown. Is there a commuter train that we can take part of the way into the city? I think I found one from Burlington to Toronto.

Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

It sounds rude, but honestly, use the search bar here. This question pretty much gets asked daily and you'll find a lot of good answers and insight.

Actually, I disagree. Op posted a lot about who they are and what they like. This is the kind of "what should I do" post I can get behind

Fair enough, but that being said my advice still stands.

I did use the search and looked at the most recent (usually within the last month or 2) posts for each search I did. Most of them were extremely broad which is why I posted and added more details. Plus I hadn't seen any recent posts about getting into the city which definitely is a consideration with parking/traffic/train schedules.

Most of the posts also were asking for things to do. I'm also looking for places to stay since I have no idea where would be a good place for a hotel. Like is north of Queen's Park along Bloor St good? Or should I look by the fashion district? The best comments I've seen in similar posts have been 6+ months or 1+ year old.

Do not staying in Burlington, it is over an hour by Go Train from Toronto. Also, it is quite expensive at 13 dollars per way per person.

Not planning on staying in Burlington but driving there to park then taking a train into Toronto to stay there for the weekend. And $13 each way? Dang that probably makes it more than parking for the weekend.

There is a 48 hour limit for parking at the GO Train station.

For parking more centrally you can check https://parking.greenp.com to find a location, cost and time limits.

Dang that is disappointing, we'd probably be there Thursday night/Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. Thanks for the parking link, I'll give that a look.

Just wait until you see parking prices in the city then...

I was kind of expecting like $50US per night, would that be accurate?

Definitely less than that.

Where does your friend live? Do you want to stay right in the centre of the city or in a surrounding area? In the city I really like fairmont royal York as well as the Strathcona.
