Introducing /u/BobbyTablesBot!

#About the project After seeing this post, I started working on a bot. It is completely functional and it should be running 24/7 unless it breaks disastrously.

Right now the bot has very little karma and will get rate-limited. I would really appreciate if you could help me by smashing the like button.

If you would like to see the source code, feel free to check it out here and don't forget to smash the star button. ^^Ok ^^I'll ^^stop ^^now.

#Usage There are two ways that you can use the bot.

  • The first way is to post a comment in r/xkcd with the number of the xkcd comic you would like to link prefixed by an exclamation mark (!) or a pound sign (#).

    !327

    or

    Show me #327

    or even

I really want to read !327 right now

  • The second way is to mention the bot from any subreddit with the number of the xkcd comic you would like to link. If the bot is mentioned, the comic number does not need to be prefixed.

    u/BobbyTablesBot 327

    or

u/BobbyTablesBot #327 is my favorite comic

    or even

Hey u/BobbyTablesBot, can you link me 327?

In any of the previous cases, the bot would respond with:

327: Exploits of a Mom

Alt-text: Her daughter is named Help I'm trapped in a driver's license factory.

#Contribution

If you think that you can contribute to the project in any way, please do! Here are some ways you can contribute:

  • If you think the response format sucks, let me know how I can improve it and I will try to do so.
  • If you have programming skills, feel free to check out the GitHub repository and see if there is anything you can improve. There is quite a bit of documentation, but feel free to send me a message if there is anything you are confused about.

#Thanks everyone! I hope that you get some use out of this bot!
^PS. ^It ^might ^have ^some ^downtime ^over ^the ^next ^few ^days ^as ^I ^clean ^everything ^up, ^but ^I ^will ^get ^that ^sorted ^out ^soon. ^<3
