Dear Buyers: Show up with the amount you agreed to.

"We have a small problem here, I have $X, thats fine right?

"I could run to an ATM if you want..."

"We just realized we only have $X because <blah blah>"

"I've only got $X with me, is that ok?"

This game is getting very old and tiring, and almost every other buyer is trying it anymore. Let me clarify how this works:

  1. We agree to a time and place, we both then show up as agreed on both conditions. We don't last minute reschedule over and over.

  2. We agree to a price beforehand, you then show up with that amount. Not the amount minus 10% or missing a $20 or a $10 bill. We both know you have it in the car, or worse you now waste my time while you go to an ATM, so just bring the amount agreed. I would rather throw the item into a woodchipper than reward this dishonest strategy.

I warn them not to do this before hand. If they do it you counter with an increased price. If it was 100 and they go for 80 you say 120.

"I'm coming from far away, I should get a discount" Why is that my problem?

Those idiots should just learn to fucking negotiate instead of pulling shitty tactics. Is it that hard...? I always make sure I'm not over extending myself to meet them and I know where the nearest ATM is.

that is a negotiating tactic. If you accept the lower price then that’s on you. No need to be mad that you were willing to take less last minute.

I wouldn't call it negotiating. The whole point of negotiating is agreeing on a price. The price had been agreed on and they are trying to underhandly change the price after the fact.

Yes exactly negotiations end at handshake and or exchange of item.

I guess we have different standards. I find it underhanded and portrays someone as a person who is too cowardly to negotiate and too slimey to deal with. Ultimately it can be solved by saying "bring the exact amount agreed upon or no deal".

I used to just say fuck it and take a $5-10 hit but now I stand my ground and say fuck you to anybody who tries this shit. This is why when selling stuff I get them to pick up near my house so if they delay I am the one who is late or still inside my house with no time lost.

this i can appreciate. Kijiji is not a sellers market it’s a buyers market. it the difference between a New cars salesman and a used. New car guy knows you want and will buy. Used wants you to buy and hopes you will.

I would be way too embarrassed to ever do something like that. Have some self respect ffs.

I am trying to sell some things on kijiji, let’s say price is $80, people msg me like can you do it for $50... man! really you want almost 40% discount in an already discounted price.... another lady trying to give me 15 for am 25 item... same 40% discount.. times a re tuff but i don’t get it

You're lucky. They usually ask for it for free

Once someone came to my place and I had $110. Except the last 10 dollars was change (we did the deal quickly, so I didn't have time to get bills). Then they were like "that's okay" even though it'd give them some good coffee.

I'm pretty sure I was the "he only showed up with $X" even though I tried to avoid it, haha.

yeah but what if it works? I low ball and try and get the price i want. hell if at the last minute i can knock a few more dollars of why the he’ll not. learn how to negotiate and haggle. never pay asking price. taught this to my daughter when she wanted to buy a item instead of paying 15 we paid 5. You can do the same buying new most people just don’t haggle price or try and knock it down they just accept hand shake and move on. you can save money on just about anything.
