Looking for advice on reducing MC clear times (2 hours to 1 hour)

Question

My guild has had MC on farm since week 5, clearing it every week in 2 hours. As we look toward future raid content, clearing MC in 90 minutes or one hours would be ideal. I know there are a few things we can do to reduce our clear time (skip trash at the beginning, for instance) but I am looking for a more comprehensive guide or just your best tips for how to accomplish this. We are all well geared, we just dont have the right strategy to do the quick clears. Thanks for your help!

90% of your gains will just be from making healers uncomfortable by pulling trash much faster and more consistently. Dropping your luci kill time from 40 to 25 seconds saves you 15 seconds. That doesn't mean shit if you waited an extra patrol cycle or if you're waiting for every healer to have 100% mana between trash pulls. We seem to sit around 1 hour regardless of raid comp. Half alts etc? 57 minutes. Best stacked melee raid? 40 minutes. The most gains come from skips + constant trash pulls pressuring mana pools.

This. We cycle healers for trash pulls. Dog patting towards boss? Grab it. Add it to the fight, whatever. Our GM has embraced "handle it". "Drink, 15 seconds" Tank pulls in 3.

Only wiped once since we've been doing this. We're fighting two Giants and a flame, OT pulls dog, dog pulls Garr. From previous pulls we only had a handful of heals with some mana. The dog was unlucky to be the stun variant. Wiped.

Can you elaborate on how you coordinate cycling healers? I wanted to try this but wasn’t really sure how to keep everyone in the same page.

You have a group 1 and a group 2 for healers, they take turns drinking and healing

Rotating heal assignments, mostly. We have an abundance of healers. So even if 5/6 are drinking we still have a bunch ready to go if needed.

On my shaman alt I just realized that most of my healing was wasted except for pumping max rank chain heals on melee during specific encounters or pulls. I simply don't waste my time/mana sniping 500 r1 chain heals anymore. When dispels get heavy and the priests start to struggle; I come in and dump big chain heals into melee/tanks etc. The reality is that most pulls don't equate to a lot of raid damage or even tank damage going out. At least not for us anymore. You can do <1hr clears with half alts in blues playing off-role just with experience and a little skill.

Figure out why the healers are running out of mana? gear? overhealing?

we assign our troubled healers to melee and have the rest focus on the ranged and tanks. This saves them from not landing a heal because the quick reacting healers got to them first.

  • Use less ranged dps, more melee dps
  • get all world buffs before raid (ony, rend, DMT, songflower)
  • dont do loot until end of raid
  • have melee use a ton of fire/arcane protection potions so they dont have to sit out baron/shazz
  • have everyone use restorative potions so mages can DPS instead of decurse
  • kill garr first not adds, then aoe adds
  • aoe gehennas, sulfuron, domo, and have melee use sappers
  • never stop pulling

Additionally, skip garr and come back to him to save buffs and all that downtime rebuffing

And then run back to kill Domo after? Wouldnt that just take longer? You can buff on the way to the lava packs and even while pulling

Gryzzyl:alliance::warrior:•

You cant rebuff DM buffs (,:

He shouldn't purge that many buffs.

Always be pulling. Make sure you go into the run with loot preplanned. Leave only the loot master to sort loot everyone else moves on.

All available world buffs

Pots and flasks

Without knowing how you do a clear it's hard to say what all you can change but honestly there's a lot you can do in MC to go faster. But a big part is just to be pretty much constantly ready to pull. Have a hunter you trust who knows MC do the pulls most of the time.

Skipping trash helps and there's a lot of trash you can skip. Knowing the fights and improving your strats helps a lot. Like when we first started doing MC on Shaz melee would just shoot ranged attacks. And in a pug I ran we did the same. But in guild runs we have melee pre pop arcane potion and to have another ready and then just nuke Shaz down in like 30-40 seconds.

We have also gotten better at AoE killing bosses with ads and not having so many people die. But all of that isn't probably as important as doing trash quickly and efficiently and skipping unneeded to pull trash.

But if you been doing MC since week 5 hopefully everyone knows what they're doing. So shouldn't have to explain fights too much and can just keep pulling trash without having people die or having to wait all the time.

A lot of other people have covered this well in general, but one thing that made a huge difference for my guild is designating a hunter to pull. Have your best hunter watch a video from one of the 30 minute or so speed runs and look at the way they pull and the mobs they skip and try that route out with a somewhat slower pacing.

The hunter should have the next mob to fight reaching the raid a few seconds before the first mob dies unless you need a Mana break.

10 bosses in MC. Let's say you're slow and it's 3 minutes for every boss. That really says the other 1.5 hours is spent on trash. If you can find ways to speed up trash pulls, even by just a 30 seconds each group, you could easily shave 15-20 minutes off of your raid time.

Docholphal1•

The quickest way to increase clear speed is to pull trash faster. Don't wait for full mana. Kill, wait a couple seconds maybe, then pull again. No one needs full mana for one trash pull unless something goes wrong.

My guild is in the same situation. However, we don't enforce world buffs, consumables, or even a pve spec. I think, at least in our situation, if majority had world buffs, used consumes, and we're pve spec we could easily cut down from 2 hours to 1-1.5 hours.

Best thing you can do if you are serious about improving your times is to record your runs and review them.

Look for times that you have excessive downtime (in between trash pulls, before bosses, looting, etc) and eliminate those things. Look for spots where you can skip trash vs. clearing it. Have everyone come with world buffs and consumes.

Lots of things you can do to improve, but without knowing where your raid is slowing down it's hard to give advice. I have found rewatching a raid recording and seeing issues is a lot easier than spotting the issues on the fly.

BetelphiOP•

This is excellent advice, we will record our next run and go through it with logs and see where our activity is slowing down.

elessarcif•

The only thing I have not seen mentioned is loot. Learn to distribute loot on the fly. The ML should loot all stuff and loot decisions are dealt with as you clear trash. Got us Sub hour.

quentinsacc•

The biggest thing is pulling fast and pulling less.

There should never be downtime unless its absolutely necessary.

Skip as much trash as possible, tell people to stack and be aware.

Mobs should have kill targets before youre done with the current group. Your tanks should be immediately moving to the next target when the current one is dead. You should have a hunter ready to pull patrols to the raid or other mobs the warriors cant pull well. Your warlocks shoild only use R1 Banish. Only stop to drink.if your healers call out that they need a mana break.

For bosses, do the AoE strat for Garr and Sulf. For Luci and Ghennas have your range pull with a coordinated nuke on one of the adds and tank it with taunt only.

Have everyone in raid spec

Make sure debuff slots are only reserved for the important ones and they do not get knocked off

Educate people on how to play better if their parses are green/grey for their ilvl

skip as much trash as possible without wiping, and chain pull as fast as possible without wiping.

Those points alone should get you really close to an hour. After that, world buffs and consumables would push you below.

My guild just took our MC time down to 1:05 this past weekend.

Basically just make sure everyone has full potions/elixirs and buffs available to their class. Get world buffs (ony, DMT, songflower). Flask up (not 100% needed but it does help a lot). Restorative potions for decurse. And then just basically keep pulling. Which means everyone has to be paying attention, buffed, drinking etc at all times. You can’t have really anyone slacking or else your holding up the whole raid. Also don’t die lol

1
dangfurries•

Force everyone to get world buffs and consumables. Then don't wipe. If you wipe once, there goes your fast run times.

1
Steffaboiii•

Start utilizing hunter pulls, 1 designated puller that always keeps pulling. Pulls--> gets taunted off --> soon as you drop combat the hunter should have pulled another pack giving healers time to drink while next pack is pulled.

  • Maximize consumable usage

  • Have healers rotate drinking

  • Have healers run-drink (google it).

  • Optimize raid setup. Use 8-9 healers. Use 2 "pure" tanks and have the rest of tanking done by pure dps warriors.

  • Dont clear trash that you dont "need" to clear.

  • Have ML looting ALL the boss loot and handle loot distribution either while continuing to clear, or simple at raid end. (Remember, loot is tradable in classic).

  • Look at speedrunning videos and learn their methods and clear patchs.

Jemmani22•

All world buffs on everyone. Pots. Pull fast.

1
Parorworse•

We don't skip trash. Avg clear time is 80-90 minutes. We chain pull and distribute loot as we continue. Then we summon the raid leader once loot is handed out and many times were almost at the next boss.

The best suggestions will come from you posting logs for your guild. Ten minutes of review is all it takes.
