I’m taking CSE310 next semester and pretty nervous, anyone have advice?

i hear CSE220 is good to take before 310, but there’s nothing open now or over the summer for that class, so i’m worried i won’t be prepared enough to take 310. also, i don’t know what instructor to take, or what to expect- really, any advice about the class would be hugely appreciated

Make sure you learn to code in C++ in whichever way you can (youtube stuff, do 30 days of code, etc).

Read cracking the coding interview if you dont want to go crazy deep, this will at least familiarize you with some the DS and Algorithms you'll encounter. Watch a few videos on computing time complexity so it doesnt blind side you.

If the first two things are pretty easy and youre comfortable with them... pick up a copy of CLRS and take it chapter by chapter.

You will be fine. Just do everything (assignments and studying) as early as possible and keep up on your theory reading.

Review your discrete math textbook. Get comfortable reading proofs. Develop the mathematical maturity to sit down and read CLRS theorem by theorem. If you can nail that down this summer, you are a lock for an A. Coding is important, sure, but they give you month+ for the projects. There is more than enough time to learn the code come class time.

Get a copy of the book, whether its a physical one or a pdf. Most of the assignments you can just use the pseudo code in the book to code functions for all the different data types.
