Need a few pointers for blueberry pie

I've only ever made sweet potato before, this will be my first blueberry pie. I've inherited a few cans of blueberry filling and I want to use them up to make space in our cupboards. Guess it's a good chance to practice more elaborate crusts! My questions are:

  • Since this is such a "wet" pie I'm wondering if I should pre-bake the crust before adding the filling and doing a full bake?

  • How can I jazz up canned filling to make it a little more interesting? I have some bottles of grand mariner and elderflower liquor I've toyed with putting in, but I'm not sure if that will cause issue

If You have the time, definitely pre bake, it just prevents soggy bottoms and underdone dough.

If you're making pie, don't forget to put airholes in the top, or make tartes.

And alcohol or syrup should be a fine addition, taste before you bake. You can also flavour your crust with spices like cinnamon. Hapoy baking!

Thanks! I was erring on the side of a pre bake just in case and maybe a lattice top

Pro baker here use vodka instead of water if you are worried about the crust being soggy. Just bake it all together it is the simplest way. Try using a cookie cutter to make a center or multiple vents. Once the blueberry filling is lightly bubbling in the center hole it’s done. If the crust is getting too dark while baking make a little foil hat for it. Happy baking.

Thank you! Was for sure considering vodka. My crust recipe calls for about 1/2 cup ice cold water, would I substitute part of that for chilled vodka? Like 1/4? The whole 1/2 lol

You probably won’t need all of the water. But yes a 50/50 would be good.
