St. Andrew's Knot! It's my favorite knot ever, it always saddens me that more people don't know about it.

Sweet mother of mercy, sagard.

That knot is awesome. I've never come across it before now, but I've just retied my tie, and it looks FREAKING AWESOME!

Thanks. you can have my quota of upknots for today!

Congrats! You have now joined an elite group! But seriously, always glad to hep.

FYI, if you tie it in front of people who don't know about it, they'll look at you like you're retarded, until it all comes together beautifully in the end.

Yes, YES!

"Hey, Mrs Millsee. Check this out".

"WTF are you doing? You put that bit under that.... AND YOU'VE GOT IT BACK TO FR.....wait, what?"

smug

"God, that looks awesome."

This was actually the first way I was taught how to tie a tie.

Your father / educator / mentor was a good man.

Ironically, it was this douche from high school who taught me. I was in band so we dressed a lot. I saw him teaching a few guys how to do this so I followed.

That knot is awesome. It's like the Pratt/Shelby, but wider so it works well for cutaway collars. Brilliant!

One of my favorite knots of all time. It boggles people's minds watching me tie it. ;)

Thanks for this post, I'll do it properly next time :D

I love the St. Andrew's. I typically only wear it with a spread collar, but I do also find that it comes loose throughout the day. I'm just always sure to be conscientious about it to stay sure it stays high and tight.

get a tie pin or tie a different knot. Those are your only two options.

It's always nice when the easiest answer is best. Just pulled out the old 'four-in-hand' and put in a tightly wound Windsor. Problem solved.

I like the tie-shirt combo!

I'm generally not a fan of Windsor knots because they're too big, this one seems fairly reasonable though. My advice would be to buy shirts with spread collars to go with larger knots; a point collar with a Windsor knot looks odd to me.

Perfect; the OCD in me was making me rage from the previous attempt.

Nice. I've tried the four-in-hand a couple times and just don't like it. I always go back to a half-windsor.

IMO, windsor is a much more manly knot anyway.

nice work.

You've forgotten clip-on tie </sarcasm>

I mean, you could always gorilla glue the tie to your shirt or sew it directly to the shirt collar. It's not a great option, but don't let this guy tell you that there's only two.

I don't know if I am crazy or alone in this, but I often keep the top button unbuttoned at work, and let my tie hang down a bit. I work in computers in an office of people who don't wear ties (in an organization where a tie is a good idea), and this allows me to step it up a little bit, while looking at least slightly "sloppy" so I feel like it's less intimidating.

Someone from another division actually pointed it out. "Wow, you look just like a computer guy. You're wearing a tie, but it looks like you don't want to be." Well, I do want to be, but I don't want to freak out my office-mates.

I'm a huge fanatic about not getting sweat stains on my shirts, so my tie knots always end up looking like this in the end. I don't care, "polished" and "put together" are two words that are never used to describe me anyways.

Tab collared shirts.

A tie bar might hold that knot up nicely.
