I think what happened is Hungary got wrecked and Serbia took its clay, later Serbia got attacked by ottos and lost the Hungarian lands except Slovakia, then Ottos got wrecked and Hungary got released

Portugal got a PU over England right at the start of the game, and France slowly but surely got partitioned by its neighbours. Later England tried to break out of the PU having its independence supported by Tunis of all people...
It was a long and bloody war, I didn't accept the call until my troops landed in Portuguese Scotland (lol) and my 20k peasants bled the 40k strong English army dry over the period of 6-7 years. Otherwise it would have been impossible to make a landing, English navy too stronk.

I started by allying Denmark, Brandenburg, Lubeck and Brunswick I think... later also Palatinate since they became the Emperor. Rivalled East Frisia, Verden and Oldenburg. A bit later on also allied Portugal who had a PU over England. They accepted because I was threated by Burgundy and my alliance with BB was broken because of my negative opinion of them.
Declared on East Frisia who were allied with Verden and Mecklenburg, took all their clay in separate peace. Didn't call in any allies, with good maneuvering you should be able to stackwipe all three of them separately since your starting army is actually really strong (+10% morale and -10% shock dmg received is huge in early game).
Then kept annexing other OPM's in Northern Germany whenever an opportunity arose while managing my AE and improving relations to prevent coalitions. Once I felt strong enough and my allies would join war against Burgundy I declared for conquest of Amsterdam. Eventually rivalled Denmark which broke the alliance, then Sweden became independent so it was time to kill them.
Ideas I went with were Innovative > Diplo > Quality > Trade
Going Economic first may have been better since you kinda have to play tall.

There is an achievement for Dithmarschen which is what I was going for. You need to control Amsterdam and Sjaelland (Copenhagen) while Denmark does not exist. It's a challenging start but was pretty fun.

Try Madyas. The only Hindu republic in the game that can form Malaya and forces you to have a strong navy to consolidate the Philippines and Indonesia.
