GUI v0.15.0.4 testers needed! (Linux, macOS, Windows)

We are close to releasing GUI v0.15.0.4 with a lot of bug fixes and other smaller UI changes. Please download the GUI for your platform and report back if it started correctly and which OS you used.

Make sure to check if the hashes match and verify the signature of the release.txt file. Snipa’s GPG key can be found here: https://github.com/monero-project/monero/blob/master/utils/gpg_keys/snipa.asc

Hi guys!

Confirming I made the builds (As if my GPG sig isn't enough, and being on my keybase...) But we're out! Sorry for the .3 release issues, but I've got my build envs sorted, so it's far less painful at this point.

Hey mods - how about a flair for Snipa?

Tested on: MacOS X 10.13.6

Started correctly? Yes.

Synced up correctly? Yes.

Bugs found? Not yet.

I'm just wondering why the current binary has only 76MB, while the old one had 450MB. The old package contained "Frameworks", "Extras", "Plugins" and stuff like that, while the new one has literally just monerod and monero-wallet-gui.

That’s why we are asking for testers :) Did you compile the GUI on your system before?

7
pebx•

Probably I did at some point in the past when testing... Tho I will try on another system!

MacOS X 10.14.6 is also working fine (aside from this fiat issue when using Tor).

Tested on Win 10 1909 - Ledger Nano X

Started correctly? Yes.

Remote Synced up correctly? Yes using sxmr node

Bugs found? Not yet.

The GUI looks more and more elegant, easy-to-use and organized. Absolutely great work guys!

Some things I particularly like are...

  • Cleaner navigation section (no more colored bullets, better grouping of links...)
  • Blurred view when the wallet's in locked mode
  • Dynamic on-off visibility of various UI controls if they are not relevant (for example, if the user does not want to show balance in other currency, the drop-down menu for USD, EUR and other currencies is hidden.)

I am sure there are tons of other changes that I have not yet picked up, but which together greatly improve the UI and UX. Is there already a change log somewhere btw?

To add: tested on Windows, and it started and synced without problems. No bugs found so far.

Can't get this bloody thing to run on Manjaro Linux!

Can you post the error message?

4
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

Please try the new version from getmonero.org and report back if it works.

u/selsta: The link for Linux in your post is broken (missing "2" at the end of the URL).

2
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

Thank you, updated. Can you also test if it starts correctly? :)

2
xauxmr•

Yes, the Linux download works beautifully! (remote node in Advanced, anyway)

Receive & send also flawless.

Running on : Fedora 29 ( 5.1.16-200.fc29.x86_64 )

The gui started fine but the daemon failed to start with the following:

error while loading shared libraries: libnorm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Seems like there is a libnorm package in some distros (Debian), looking around for something on the fedora side for the NORM protocol.

Can you check if the daemon from getmonero.org (v0.15.0.1 CLI download) starts correctly?

Thank you for testing.

3
selrahal•

The v0.15.0.1 CLI starts fine and gets to syncing.

The v0.15.0.1 GUI starts fine and gets a daemon going and connects ok (simple mode).

selstaOPXMR Contributor •

Thank you, useful information.

3
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

v0.15.0.4 GUI is now released on getmonero.org and your issue should be resolved.

3
selrahal•

thanks selsta! That issue is resolved. For the first few minutes the GUI says

Connected daemon is not compatible with GUI. Please upgrade or connect to another daemon

, the Network status is "Wrong Version", and the logs show

E daemonBlockChainTargetHeight: Failed to connect to daemon
E daemonBlockChainHeight: Failed to connect to daemon

This only persists for a few minutes. After the wallet is fully synced up the messages go away and everything is good.

Currently the simple mode algorithm chooses a random remote node so it is possible that it connects to an outdated one. Usually waiting / restarting the GUI solves the issue.

The algorithm will be greatly improved with v0.15.1.0 with should be out in the next months.

Cool! Happy to test or otherwise help out.

Tested on: Manjaro Linux 19.0.2

Started correctly? Yes

Synced up correctly? Yes using moneroworld remote node

Bugs found? None so far

2
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

Can you also test if the included monerod starts? Thanks.

2
Epsilon_void•

Starting monerod gives me this error: monerod: error while loading shared libraries: libnorm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

2
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

We used 10.12 to build the GUI, that’s why it does not work on 10.11 :/

It should work with a remote node.

Will see what we can do to fix this.

Tested on: Manjaro 19 (kernal 5.4.18-1)

Started correctly? Yes.

Synced up correctly? Yes. Both remote and local. Ledger nano s works as well.

Sounds like a plan

GODL_XMR•

Where is TOR support?

1
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

Not included in the GUI yet.

1
jonf3nXMR Contributor•

Note: you can use the GUI with Tor, but it must be started from the commandline via torsocks.

I am currently seeing an issue with fiat exchange rates, but other than that all is working as expected. Would be nice to know if others are seeing this issue (can respond in the github issue).

1
TrasherDK•

Why is this not at tag/branch I can clone/fetch, and build ?

1
selstaOPXMR Contributor •

It is, the tag is called v0.15.0.4.

1
TrasherDK•

Sorry, my bad. I was looking for a monero-project/monero tag. The GUI is there v0.15.0.4 Gonna build soonish..

EDIT: This build: prepare v0.15.0.5 update was the source of my confusion.
