I know this is run by a reddit admin's significant other. For that reason, I want this to succeed. I really do. I think Reddit is a great community and if one of our own makes it big, even better.

That said, these are kind of bad. They look like bad orphaned suit coats. Crappy materials (worsted wool?!?) , buttons that don't mesh with the jacket. This isn't just "what epicviking thinks looks good", this is "standard accepted rules for what comprises a blazer or sport coat". The ticket pockets look nothing like what a ticket pocket should look like and in some pictures appear to be crooked. Sizing is another story altogether. I'm not alone. I've seen saboteur panned a number of times on the internet, and for an internet only company, that means a lot.

This may sound really egotistical, as I am clearly not a tailor (just a college kid who knows a decent amount about tailoring and has too much free time to read old books on obscure subjects), but my reputation here precedes myself. I can honestly say that I am pretty damn knowledgeable on the subject. I'd like to help.

MFA admins, if you'd like to put me in contact with the people in question (Saboteur), I can at the least give them some ideas. I don't know if they want to hear them, but the least I can do is offer them. I'm not asking for a job, just a chance to explain how Saboteur could be a hell of a lot better with only a few minor changes.

edit: I'm looking into starting a similar company with outerwear and raincoats. I've done a lot of research on what works and what doesn't. I'm not just some bum on the internet talking about clothes and smoking a lot of weed.

Would Land's End appreciate you aiding a potential competitor?

ahahahaahahhaah

but really, I only buy their shirts. They are basic and I'm just fat enough they fit right. also, they are 14 dollars.

Idk to be blunt there just isn't that much appealing in Saboteur and there is actually a pretty good market out there for affordable casualish blazers for younger guys if this subreddit is any indicator. I like the idea, but I think it could be a lot better. Thats all.

Not saying you're wrong, just making a joke to lighten up the mood after that mammoth post. To be honest, Saboteurman would probably benefit from your advice, like a lot of people in this community have.

I've been in a mammoth posting mood all day, I don't know why.

that's unfortunate. i'd buy whatever ridiculously fashionable bs you cooked up.

I actually wanted to get them to make some proper soft shoulder jackets. flannel and tweed and corduroy in the winter, cotton and linen in the summer. cut a little longer than most trendy jackets these days, but still short enough to work for more casual stuff. Basic patterns, herringbone, POW check, maybe a seersucker that kinda stuff. No cigar. I wish I had access to those kinda resources, big things would happen.

combobob•

wait, worsted wool is bad?

1
epicviking•

for a sportcoat, yeah, worsted wool is too smooth and indistinguishable from a suit jacket/suit pant. Sportcoats are almost always a rougher material, both to the eye and to the touch.

Suggestions?

Anyone actually own any of their products? Would like some opinions on the quality, cut, etc. if possible.

The guy in the video is one of the reddit admins IIRC.

I purchased their Invincible Jacket during the pre-release sale a few months back.

http://www.saboteurman.com/products/invincible-jacket

It was a nice jacket, and I was excited as heck about it. Unfortunately though the sizing was wrong. I am a 38L or 40R (with the sides taken in) which is a sort of in-between size. I ordered a Medium hoping for the best but sadly the sleeves were a solid 3" too short. :( So if you have long arms and tend to be in-between sizes then I say be careful.

Justin helped me out with the return and was fantastic about everything. Definitely appreciate their customer service even if it wasn't a fit for me. It helps make that leap of trust with buying expensive articles of clothing site-unseen.

How long is this offer good for?

Anyone paying that much money for a sports coat sized S - XL is asking for all kinds of sizing trouble.

Upvoted for great style!

Okay so style wise - do I buy one of these charcoal blazers for $120 or go with an indochino navy blazer @ $150 with a groupon?

1
[deleted]•

Depends on how soon you need it etc. If you have time to burn go for Indochino - the fit is awesome and you need to have that if you intend on wearing it with jeans or anything casual. Otherwise try these guys and report back, some of the shirts look nice but I need someones feedback before ordering!
