15M Could I do Intermittent Fasting

I'm overweight (No scales in the house I will try get a weight scale at some point) and I really want to get fit but I find it really hard to keep the kind of dedication to do 20min on my treadmill a day.

I normally eat 3 sausage rolls for breakfast when going to school and I know that's really unhealthy, but I also heard it's really unhealthy to skip breakfast.

So If I did the normal method, I'd eat no breakfast, and I'd have my first meal on my second lunch and my dinner at 8. This seems really hard but I could try giving it a go (if my grandparent doesn't complain too much about me not having breakfast)

I feel like this could have good effects in weight loss cause with the combination of puberty I'd prob have better results then someone at 30 yr old

Is this healthy for someone my age?

edit

I've completely cut out fizzy drinks of my diet (1 year going) haven't had takeaway in a few months (previous pretty much obsessive on this) only thing left is snacks and sugar treats which I do eat too much of.

I go to bed at 12, which I know is really late but I have real trouble keeping to a schedule of going to bed earlier.

When you're growing you should try not to be too restrictive in your diet - would it be easier to just wake up a bit earlier to get a healthy breakfast in rather than the sausage rolls? Then try to cut down on snacking, fizzy drinks etc.

I'm going to try getting a banana for breakfast instead of the sausage rolls tomorrow.

Maybe try something with more protein - some eggs, sauteed vegetables, and the banana - the protein and dinner will keep you full longer and offset the sugar spike from the banana.

One banana instead of 3 rolls is a big cut and you aren’t likely to stick with it. How about going slowly, like two rolls and an apple and a banana?

In a week, one roll, eggs & fruits.

In another week, eggs & fruits & maybe toast. (0 rolls).

Over a month, reduce breakfast to less, if you can. If not, just that one meal being way healthier will make a difference.

Slow & steady. Your body won’t like crazy changes, and you’re more likely to binge because you feel deprived if you go cold turkey.

As a general rule, teens should start with exercise because young bodies recover so much faster than adult ones do.

I encourage you to lift weights and pack on as much muscle as you can, because that muscle is ravenously hungry, and will burn fat. You can complement that with yoga, gymnastics for balance, control, flexiblity, etc. If treadmill isn't your thing, then you should look at swimming or another cardio exercise.

As far as fasting goes, if you're not fasting more than 16 hours, you should be OK. It will be far more important for you to get 8-10 hours of sleep each night, that it will be for you to fat 14-16 hours a day.

I would not recommend that you restrict calories at this time, as your body is likely to still grow for the next several years, and it won't be worth it if you end up stunted. Instead, I would encourage you to eat clean, more green vegetables, more eggs & dairy, less bready starch. Cut out manufactured "food" like chips, cookies, crackers, candy, soda and juice.

Good luck!

I really like this advice, I wish treadmill was better for leg exercise but endurance is a good thing that I need to train as well.. I will try do pushups and work up to 10 a day ( I cannot even do one )

I wish there was exercise stuff in my house but I think at some point my mom gave up on exercising so she threw it all out.

Sure you can skip breakfast. Just make sure you get the right amount of minerals necessary to grow during your eating window.

Don’t listen to people that say that it is unhealthy to skip breakfast. Even a child can skip a meal without ill effects, humans aren’t that frail that they must have 3 meals per day spaced out in perfect timing. Prolonged water fasting is not recommended for anyone still growing. You need calcium and vitamin d while growing

Skip the treadmill and find something you enjoy. There are so many things in this world that provide physical fitness. Try lifting weights or body exercises. Push-ups, even starting on knees, builds muscle on the chest, shoulders and arms. Try to get to 10 sets of 10 or 5 sets of 20. Do 100 push-ups a day to really build an upper body.

Resistance bands are cheap and can help you build muscle. At your age you have so much potential to build muscle, I would capitalize on that.

Good luck.

I enjoy the treadmill, just have trouble getting on it. I watch netflix while I do it.

I'm going to try replacing my breakfast, with just a banana. and I'll eat an apple for my first lunch and something else for my later one. and then dinner whenever it happens. Not sure about resistance bands cause if someone saw them in school I'd be embarrassed AF

I do really want to do pushups as I cannot even do one, I'll try when my mom isn't home ( get embarrassed doing this stuff when she is I know it's weird) Last time I tried carrying a table my back pulled or something so I definitely need strength.

I also have a VR headset, not the best but beatsaber, thrill of the fight and stuff like that could be good for exercise.
