Fantasy/Sci-Fi recommendation request!

Recommendation Request

Okay, so I'm looking for something comparable in scope and quality to the works I'm about to list.

I'm not really super particular on it being fantasy/sci-fi per se (fiction would be a better label I guess) but that is my go-to genres.

Works I've enjoyed a lot:

  • The First Law trilogy and all standalone novels, including the A Little Hatred (Steven Pacey is probably the best narrator I've listened to)
  • Kingkiller Chronicles
  • Gentleman Bastard
  • Red Rising

Works I enjoyed, but not to the extent of the above:

  • Mistborn (only listened to the first book, didn't really get captured by it, will continue at some point)
  • The Stormlight Archive
  • The Raven's Shadow
  • Shattered Sea

..with these titles as a basis, would you good people mind sharing some of your top picks? :-)

I enjoyed the Witcher series. It gets worse towards the end of series imho, but there is a lot to enjoy.

The name of the wind and wise man's fear are fantastic. I read them on paper, but there are audiobooks.

Yeah, they're great - the trilogy is called Kingkiller Chronicles (I think, at least?) so already listened to them.

The audiobooks were great as well if you're even into a reread of 'em.

The expanse

Any opinions for me as someone who has watched the show?

Haven’t watched the show so I can’t really say.

Apart from that; it’s a fun ride. Danial Abraham and ty funk*(forgot his last name) did an amazing job of writing an intriguing story.

The best part is how he writes dialogue that not only seems natural but seamlessly integrates inner workings of the speakers mind. As opposed to someone like Scalzi that just writes “ c said. Y said. X said. Y responded. C said. “

Hope you enjoy it.

I watched the show prior to reading the books, kept putting them off as I ‘knew’ what was going going to happen. So glad I picked the books up binged them all over a few months, cannot wait for the last one hopefully this year!

Also recommend Mountain Man, Expeditionary Force is also brilliant

Chronicles of Pelenor is a pretty chill fantasy series, it's in a grey area between YA and adult fantasy, having interesting and morally ambiguous characters, very good worldbuilding and a nice sense of progression
