Are Chinese manufactured products starting to show shortages yet?
Hello everyone,
The news right now is being dominated by the severity of the outbreak in western countries and the expected worsening of the situation in the next few weeks. The focus has moved off China recently. We have all seen the pics/videos of panic buying of toilet paper, food etc however that can be expected to die down as local manufacturing and distribution of those items catches up. As a lot of people on this sub did I prepared and have stocked up on essentials so am essentially unaffected right now by these temporary shortages.
I am more interested in knowing if anyone has experienced or know of any critical shortages of products manufactured in China. The CCP is conducting a massive pr campaign right now both in traditional media and social media that 'everything is getting back to normal' in China (including a disinformation campaign here on reddit ) however I remain to be convinced as there is little to no independent verification of this by western media (for instance there are no BBC reporters touring production lines in China) . Drips and drabs of information from non official sources indicates manufacturing in China is still severely affected and footage such as this and this of empty U.S. dockyards is highly concerning to me.
For instance in my personal situation I have a 2 yr old child whose nappies are made in China. I have stocked up on a few extra boxes but can we expect nappy supply to start to run low? Are there any local nappy manufacturers? ( I am in Australia btw). What are other essential goods that could face shortages that we on this sub haven't considered yet ? (surgical and P2 masks, sanitisers are obvious examples) but what else could we need to stock up on? Anyone in manufacturing/distribution/supply industry I am especially interested in your thoughts...
